+1 exactly - treat this seriously folks. When in Rome, Rome's laws apply. If you travel to an area of the country which makes abortion a crime, like murder, then you take some risk if you find yourself in that type of situation. Don't think you can somehow evade a state's laws because it looks easy to do so (mailing drugs, hopping on a flight, driving a car, etc).
Exactly. Where you want to live, move, vacation, or go on a work trip will be limited if you are now female and able to get pregnant.
What happens if you have health problems while pregnant and on a work trip or a vacation? What happens if you are date raped in a red state and then go back home to have an abortion? If life starts at conception, will women be able to take plan B after a rape?
I have a neighbor who has been posting on our neighborhood Facebook group that she has large supply of Plan B. I’m wondering if she’s putting herself at risk doing this.

The fact that THIS is where the left is focused shows exactly why they wont be able to get a leg up-- everyone is focused on licing out dystopian novel fantasies. I didnt think, at first, that Rs would ve able to pull off a nationwide ban, but now Im pretty sure they can since their opposition is all way down the rabbit hole.
I totally agree. I’m beginning to think this thread is really a couple right wing trolls trying to have some fun whipping up terror in the “libs” - while moving the Overton window in the process.
It's not fanciful. It's actually on the table: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/15/opinion/abortion-rights-travel.html
Do I think women will have to take pregnancy tests at the border? No. But Red states are going to try to keep women from traveling for abortions, any way they feasibly can. In some cases, this will result in the detention of a woman and a pregnancy test; or a criminal proceeding forbidding her from leaving the state for the duration of the pregnancy.
Almost none of what is being discussed here is “on the table” according to your own article - except the question of whether the home state can retain jurisdiction over a resident’s procurement of an abortion in a different state, and criminalize those who aid/abet. (Which is very troubling in and of itself of course but a far cry from the dystopia being spun here…)
What do you think criminalizing abortion means? It means it’s a crime. You can be locked up for an attempted crime or conspiracy to commit a crime. A woman who tried to get an abortion could *absolutely* be charges and prevented from leaving the state.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Oh yes the right will stop free travel between the states because they can. There will be check points and demands for papers at the border of the red states. SCOTUS will rubber stamp this.
No court would uphold that.
How do you figure that?
There is nothing anywhere or anytime in U.S. Constitutional history that would allow states to do that. Millions of people cross state lines every day. Think about rush hour in NYC, DC, Philly, Chicago, and many more cities. Airlines, Amtrak, etc. A fascist state couldn’t do it without shutting down interstate commerce. It isn’t logistically or legally possible for states to block people from leaving. The real laws they are enacting are enough to get riled up about.

if you are thinking this is too hard logistically you have not been listening.
It is not going to be only Abortion. They are coming for all women's rights. You will not be able to travel without permission.
Don't believe me? Hum, we will have an Authoritarian Fascist making laws there will be no checks and balances. You won't be able to sue. You will be jailed for rocking the boat. There will be rules to follow and they will be enforced.
What do you think ACB is on SCOTUS for? It was not for her qualifications she's not qualified.
The Republican party is telling you exactly what they will do.
We already have women bounty hunters in Texas. Ask Rep Tony Tinderholt he has death penalty plans for women.

Oh, that's a neat trick.
Us: Republicans are going to ban abortion federally!
You: You're being hysterial. Your hysteria is going make them pull off a federal ban!
BTW - the likely scenario is not pregnancy tests at the state border. It's providers only providing services to people who can show they are from that state (already happening) because they fear being sued (Texas bounty law) or other law enforcement by the other state. And, it's an angry father/in-law/pro-lifer getting a TRO or arrest warrant for a woman who they know is pregnant and wants to leave the state.
Some previous posters on this thread have mentioned ankle bracelet monitoring of pregnant people. How will that work?
It's really not difficult to project.
Woman gets pregnant. Busy body (or abusive partner) suspects she is going to leave the state for an abortion. Maybe she even attempts to get pills mailed to her. Police report filed. Woman charged with attempt to procure abortion. Woman sentenced to probation w/monitoring for duration of pregnancy.
+1. And doctors could notify authorities if they suspect an intention to seek abortion.
