DCPS Elementary teacher here. I’d love for it to be the new normal to mask up when you are sick. I’m not concerned about Covid in particular now, as I’m fully vaccinated, but have loved not constantly getting sick from little ones, sent to school with green snot oozing from their noses, coughing/sneezing in my eyes while I’m tying their shoes or zipping their coats. Please, if you have to send your obviously ill/probably contagious kid to school, spare a thought to the teachers working so closely with them. <3

I want to know which schools had silent lunch BEFORE covid. And why.

When my kid was in a 'learning hub' last year they had silent lunch bc of covid. But that was last year.

I always thought silent lunch was because the lunch period is so short and kids need to actually eat. A lot of kids get distracted talking to friends and don’t finish their lunch

Wear the mask if you want.

Don’t wear it if you don’t want to.

Anxiety-ridden parents on both sides need to get over themselves and their self-important egos.

Agreed.

Yeah, not sure why everyone is living in the past here. Move on.

Clearly most people aren't ready to move on if the majority is still masking their kids. It will be a long road to normalcy for our children.

I have taught for 15 years and only the most old school teachers would do silent lunch. We realize that kids need social time and if they do not have it they can’t focus on academic tasks.

Pk4 kid reported that every child was wearing a mask except one.

Not at ours

There was never tape on the floor in my daughter’s K DCPS classroom; they do have assigned seats at their tables, but I assume that’s just good sense Covid or no.

Same here. This year has been completely normal except kids were wearing masks

Also curious about this. Covid policy or otherwise I would strenuously object to it and send my children elsewhere.

Really? Fascinating. What purpose did it serve?
