Why are people saying March 1 isn’t a thing? According to our last communication from FCPS, they are recognizing that March 1 is when they have to be in compliance with the state law. Students can choose to unmask then.
Because Friday's CDC announcement "trumps" March 1. Fairfax County is in low transmission as of Friday February 25th. The CDC no longer recommends indoor masking in our county or our schools. FCPS' own policy now allows students and teachers to unmask as earlier as tomorrow. Though, they seem slow to admit it.
For staff their policy says 7 days at Moderate or below. We’ve been Low for 3.
So this is day 3?
Maybe 2, depending on how you count it. The CDC announced the changes on Friday.
So fcps will decide we have to stay masked this week but not next week. Like a week makes a big difference?
🤷♂️
If we were in low Friday. We have probably been in medium for 7 days.
Fcps is just making excuses.
Yep- Every other county around has accepted this. FCPS is dragging their feet and making excuses. No need for convoluted messaging. Just say masks no longer required, feel free to wear if you want to continue.

I'm sure that will happen. It's highly likely any FCPS teacher or staff member is unvaccinated. Yes there are a few but most people would be hard pressed to name more than 1-2 people in their buildings and even then it's usually speculation. Teachers will probably mostly continue to mask due to various factors, including whether a lot of their students are out with "allergies" at the same time and the impossibility of getting a decent sub with short notice in many cases.
I’m an ES teacher. I don’t see many benefits of staying masked when allowed to unmask. Are you thinking it would be beneficial in case of close contact and related policies?
ES teacher here. I gave many colleagues who are immunocompromised and/or have kids under 3 at home. They said they will continue masking.
