We all thought abortion was safe not so long ago. Now look at where we were.

Louisiana is getting ready to pass a law that is so broad it would ban IUDs, and possibly IVF.

Youngkin told you who he was and you still elected him. Whatever happens is on the heads of all who voted for him.

Glad you understand how voting works. Not everyone think like your wacky ways.

I can’t even when the people who speak in tongues get on here and tell everyone else they’re wacky. When the ground is settled, there will be laws restricting the right of fundamentalists to breed. Count on it.

Good gosh, the left are such alarmists. Overturning RvW just means putting it to the states to decide. Virginia would like a 20 week ban with exceptions. If that is too extreme for you, sorry, but you are in the minority on this. European countries have similar laws, and no one is up in arms on the issue there. While most people do not favor eliminating abortions, they do favor some restrictions. If you are in favor of third trimester abortions just because someone feels like it, I truly feel sorry for you.

You know what else Europe has? That's right - universal healthcare. So you can actually obtain birth control, prenatal care, maternity care, and even abortion through the national health care system.

And I think all of you folks will be singing a much different tune when the GOP starts coming for your birth control. Because that's next. If there's no Roe, there's also no Griswold.

What on earth are you going on about? This isn't even a discussion anyone is having. Birth control is readily available.

Thanks to Supreme Court precedent that rests on the same foundation as Roe in a case that Alito specifically pointed out was wrongly decided.

Oh my sweet summer child. I barely know where to start. Go read or read about Griswold v. Connecticut, the 1965 USSC case that recognized the right of married couples to freely obtain and use contraception. It's the same reasoning that was used in Roe. I am confident that once Roe is overturned a very conservative state will start legislating who has the right to contraception. The people that have been fighting to overturn Roe for the last 49 years are not just people who have a reasoned and sincerely held belief about when life begins.

We've already seen multiple efforts to limit access to contraception based on religious beliefs - Hobby Lobby case anyone? Remember when college student Sandra Fluke testified in Congress about contraception and was called a slut? That was in 2012, barely 10 years ago. Do you think those attitudes are not still prevalent today?

I think reproductive rights will be a slow burn issue - might take 15-20 years to really feel the effects and then the pendulum will swing on this again.

Cannot take anyone seriously who writes “oh my sweet summer child.”

This. Youngkin is going to kill all of the political progress made in Virginia that made businesses want to locate there and people want to live there.

+1, from a Virginian. None of this is surprising from Youngkin, but the people who voted for him will try to pretend that being mad about schools somehow excuses their vote.

Yup. This is 100% on them. Youngkin admitted before the election that he was going to push anti-choice.

Next time rein in your SJWs if you want my vote. Calling me an idiot does not make me feel welcome either. Also recognize that your top issue may not be my top issue. Your doomsday scenario with Youngkin is laughable. Larry Hogan next door runs a deep blue state.

Instead of scaremongering and shaming, do an introspection and come back and earn my vote.

“Earn your vote”? You really need anonymous posters to convince you?

Most adults are capable of evaluating candidates on their own. Weird that you rely on strangers to form your opinion.

Anyway, if you voted for Youngkin you voted for everything that comes with him. Including misogyny. That’s on you.

Your bravado is fueled by your own anonymity. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

The Democrats treated me and my issues as roadkill when they raced through with their one shot agenda. There was no space for anyone who saw it differently from the extreme left wingers that have hijacked policy making in the party. But with supercilious boosters like you trying to shame me for my vote, my one-off vote may not be one-off. Yes, my vote is earned by whoever gets it. And I hope yours is earned as well. Or else our democracy is in trouble.

No one filled out your ballot but you. Stop blaming others for your actions.

Own it.

Where do you see me apologizing for my ballot. I am proud of my vote and the outcome. And despite the fear-monger it I don’t worry that all hell will break loose with Youngkin. I am pro-choice and favor gun control but the Democratic Party is not listening. Enough said.

How do you define “all hell break loose”?

Well done.

+1. If you vote in favor of government forcing women to be incubators for unwanted and non-viable children and the country being awash in guns so that our kids get gunned down in school at stratospherically higher rates than in virtually every other country, then you do support those policies. Your *feelings* about them are irrelevant. You have *acted* in favor of them.

I am done talking. If you want to prevail then you have to LISTEN. It’s communications 101. And not just to your echo chamber.

And you cannot shame people into agreeing with you. Also communications 101.

Extremists on either side control the narrative but we in the middle control who is in charge. Let that sink in. And step off your self-righteous pedestal and acknowledge our power. And what you have to do to earn our support. Ranting does not help.

Extremists on the left want voting for all who can do so legally, want universal healthcare and want to make it so mentally ill people cannot posess guns legally. Extremists on the right want an authoritarian ethno-Christian white nationalist country.

The two are not the same.

I will give you that.

But Youngkin is not Desantis. He could be Hogan. And I will take a Hogan any day over Bernie/AOC an their ilk.

All this angst about Youngkin threatening abortion rights is much ado about nothing. Youngkin/Miyares are making the right noises to please their base on the right.

And yes Canada is still awaiting all those who had said they would move when Trump got elected. All those emigrating from Virginia can cut a deal with them Canadians. Au Revoir!

Is it really “much ado about nothing”?

You think people will take away your contraception choices? In each case, you are conflating having other people pay for your contraception with people trying to take away contraceptive rights. Two completely and totally different things.

Rs are terrible at fiscal responsibility.

Subsidizing contraception is cheaper than subsidizing the medical costs associated with pregnancy, delivery, child visits x 25 years. Cheaper than maternity leave. Cheaper than educating that child. Providing social services. Providing legal services and jailing unwanted kids. Etc.

p.s. Absolutely the GOP will try take away contraceptive options.

Who are these other people to whom you refer?

Are they the other people in my employer administered health insurance plan, that I pay premiums for? If so, can I opt out of paying for oncology treatment for the other people in my plan because I think cancer is God's will. Or can I opt out of paying for the portion of my premium that goes to treat old people or obese people because I think old people should just die (it's good for the economy, after all) or because obese people are gross and irresponsible? I also definitely don't want to subsidize Viagra. If you can't get an erection I don't see why that's my problem.

I mean, we can spike the price of birth control pills to $1000/month and they would still be "available." We can charge $50,000 for a tubal ligation and that doesn't mean you can't get one.

We can watch our maternal mortality rate decline even further as we descend into being a third world country or we can decide to pay for health care that effects 1/2 of the population. Or maybe the female half of the population are the other people you don't give a $h*t about.

+1 There had to be someone better than him. I thought I was in a time machine.

So you voted for Youngkin and Herring?

Wut?

Herring was an excellent AG. If the only reason pp voted for Youngkin was because McAuliffe was a uniquely poor candidate and the others who ran against him in the primary would have been acceptable, then most likely pp would have split their ticket and voted for Herring. If pp instead voted a straight Republican ticket, that suggests pp wouldn’t have voted for a Democrat no matter what, making their post above awfully disingenuous.
