You’re confused. Harvard is the Vandy of the North. Duke is a remote campus of Rutgers.
It is true that Duke is filled with NJ kids, while I doubt Vanderbilt is. That is a big difference right there.

its not maligned except on this dumb board because as often stated, there are alot of sour grapes parents on here. It's a great school and most are thrilled to get in and go. do not make your decision based on this anonymous board, where there could literally be one or two people who hate UVA posting on a regular basis to make it feel like there are hoards out there that do. Just about every kid at our NoVA public wanted UVA, only about 11 got in last year and 10 are there (and all are in the top 6% of their class). Pretty sure that means its well respected. The only one who didn't attend that got in got a full ride somewhere else and is planning on medical school so that was important to them.
Many feel UVA is over-promoted and they are reacting to that.
and that's fine, but I would hope that someone looking at this board doesn't base their decision on those people who don't like it and they are a loud minority. Not saying they are not entitled to their opinions, but its a solid school that most in VA are happy, and actually excited to go to.
