It's crazy that we are so eager to surround kids with guns and instruments of murder and violence yet want to keep guns away from them. At least now we know who the REAL "child groomers" are.

I’m opposed to the book bans. They are the analog version of online censorship.

I don’t support DeSantis over Disney. However I do think that there is a difference between telling a 6 year old about gay people vs. telling them that they can choose to be a boy or a girl or both or neither.

No one teaches that. Trans people very much DON'T think they can choose to be a boy or a girl. If they could choose most of them would choose to be their birth gender because it sucks a lot less than being trans.

I never told my kids the latter specifically (I do tell them there is no such thing as girl colors, boy colors, etc.) but seriously, what is so threatening about it when you really think about it?

We lock people into rigid notions -- boys wear this, girls wear that, boys have their hair like this, girls have their hair like that, girls paint their nails and wear jewelry, boys do not -- and when it comes down to it, they're just societal choices. Go to a different society and you'll find different notions of what is male and what is female.

I know this makes people feel uncomfortable. But there is nothing "natural" about women wearing dresses and men wearing pants. It's all societal.

Let me make this very clear. If you think DeSantis banned books bec they had anything in them at all you are an idiot and you don't get to ban books in the US full stop. Learn to read because DeSantis only bought books from the Carlyle group funneling monies to Youngkin's cronies. Next time you post do your homework. None of this has to do with actual caring about what kids are learning.

I have less of an issue with the materials on any racial/political grounds than I do with the use of non-zero-based y-axis in the charts, that's terrible data viz 101 and makes the charts quite misleading. There are some cases where non-zero-based is fine and can be made quite clear, but this is basically a direct example of what not to do.

And clearly that was intentional, to exaggerate the differences in the groups beyond the reality. I don’t blame them for rejecting a textbook using that example.
