I don't know that "contract with America" had much to do with campaign finance laws but in any event, we didn't see a steep drop off in Federal Government function until 2017.

Spin it any way you want. There will be a vote to open the government. If Democrats vote it down it’s on them.
No one needs to spin anything. Poll after poll shows people blame Republicans for the shutdown.
You are right, but Dems have an often misunderstood (or ignore) what the people are trying to say. Most notably what independents want. The Dems win but believe they have a mandate for everything they’re putting forth and then we get … Trump 1.0. Then to moderate that we get Biden. Then Trump 2.0.
We’ll get Dem XYZ next but they’ll misread the people again.
Ugh.
Just has very “you made me angry so now I’m going to hit you”vibes.
We live in a two party system. If you are lucky, you get to occasionally vote for someone you like. If not you vote for the lesser of two evils. And you certainly don’t vote for someone who says they will be a dictator on day one.
What are you smoking? It can stay 2 party. Just want two different parties.

I'm convinced people think the two entities currently controlling our two-party system are public entities that can't be left to fail. They are in fact failing dysfunctional PRIVATE entities that should be allowed to fail unless there is some magical way for them to be completely overhauled and reformed.
Sure, and then the next duopoly can just repeat the process after a few years or maybe a generation of good(ish) government.
Its probably past time to re-evaluate how we do democracy and even if democracy is the right answer.
Mighty optimistic of you to think there will be a decade of good governance.
It will simply be a rebrand, except less chips and more air in the bag.

Wait. Democrats have been in DC this whole time while GOP are home jerking off. They aren’t even holding town halls!
How are Dems lazy? I don’t expect an answer from this because I know, something something, socialist, something something.
Democrats have been working this entire time.
It's the lazy ass Republicans who have left DC and don't seem to care. Even though they are in charge of all three branches of government.
Democrats' work has been to oppose taking a vote on a bill that would fund the government for two months, now less than one month.
That is one way of looking at it.
Another way of looking at it is that we are supposed to have a compromise government based on the three branches and then the senate rules of 60 votes for certain legislation. The GOP decided to forgo the 60 vote rule in passing the BBB, and thus no compromise with the Democrats. Now, the GOP needs the 60 votes per senate rules, but since the democrats had no part of writing the BBB, there is no reason for them to support it now, which is what the GOP is asking. The GOP has two options: 1) change the rules as they have several times already, and pass the funding with a majority vote, or 2) compromise with the democrats on the issue of healthcare subsidies for the workers of the country as a ballast to the trillions of dollars of tax cuts for the rich.
Or they can vote on appropriations bills that cannot be filibustered. Democrats are shutting down the government over a month of funding at same levels.

Yep. Take down MAGA now. Find a replacement while taking down the Democratic Party next. Find replacement for them.
As I see it, it is a semi-cooperative game. Help the Dems somewhat now to oust MAGA, then take the Dems down the same way.
