Respectfully disagree on the poll bashing. RPI is based on data with no opinions. Media and coaches polls are subjective based on expert opinion. All of them are valid. One could not be better than the other as they measure different things.

Maybe because those rankings don't conform to any sense of reality? RPI listed Syracuse as the #1 team last year when the team didn't even make the national championship. RPI ranked NW third this year when it lost to BC in the national championship. See where I'm going with this?

Because more than half (15 of 29) of the playoff slots are awarded automatically to conference champions. In some cases, complete joke conferences.

Robert Morris (RPI 96), LIU (78) and Mt. St. Mary's (60) made the playoffs this way, crowding out some very good teams.

Every player wants to win, simple. That’s why there is an IVY league champion as well. In making ones decision to attend school, some may sacrifice level of play for level of education. However they still ALL want to win no matter where they land.

Exactly – and that perfectly proves my point. Those players chose the Ivy League or high academic *first* for their undergrad degree: stability, no 5th years taking spots, and elite academics. Winning a championship *later* via a post grad transfer (often with a funded Master's degree-a brilliant move!) is a separate, opportunistic phase. It doesn't change the fact that during INITIAL recruitment, many top students specifically seek out environments like the Ivies precisely because they prioritize the undergrad academic experience and roster stability over immediately chasing a title. Both choices – starting at an Ivy and transferring for a post grad year – can be smart, strategic, and driven by different goals at different times.
