GC appears to be on the rise. Let's see how they play against Bullis before crowning them WCAC champion. Dane has done a great job with GC in just his second season. Give him a couple more years to recruit and GC will content for the championship every year.

Week of 3/18

1. Georgetown Prep (3-2): Lil Hoyas have good wins over MIAA foes Loyola Blakefield and Saint Mary's from Annapolis. Hoyas are very well balanced across the field. Hoyas have a cupcake schedule for the next week with games with Saint James (MAC) and Ryken before a monster game with their Jesuit Rival Gonzaga.

2. Bullis (4-0): The young Bulldogs are off to a 4-0 start but have yet to truly be tested. We will find out how strong this Bullis team is over the next 10 days when they play MIAA traditional powers Loyola Blakefield and St Pauls. Intriguing matchup with Good Counsel looms tomorrow.

3. Landon (2-2): Bears lost heart breaker to national powerhouse Haveford in OT over the weekend. Landon has the athletes they can likely run with anyone this year, however the Bears offense has proven they are too inconsistent. Big matchup tomorrow vs Saint Mary's from Annapolis before a Spring break trip down to the Lone-star State.

4. PVI (4-0): Panthers have raced to a 4-0 record under new Head Coach Schwartz. Good win over Christchurch over the weekend who previously beat the smack out of Saint Stephens. Panthers have an interesting test with Blue Ridge later this week who is a very up-coming program with it Canadian pipeline.

5. Gonzaga (1-2): Purple Eagles have the talent to play with anyone in the country but lack chemistry. Tough loss last week to Saint Mary's of Annapolis on the road. Things don't get any easier for Gonzaga this week with Boys Latin and Culver Prep traveling down to Eye Street. Eagles head down to the Tampa area for Spring break later this week.

6. SJC (0-2): The Cadets have managed 9 goals in two games in this young season. Who will step-out in Dunkels absence? Brutal week looms ahead with games with Culver Prep and national boarding power, Taft coming into town.

7. Good Counsel (5-0): Dane Smith's Falcons are surprisingly off to a 5-0 start and could act as a dark horse in the WCAC. Intriguing match-up vs Bullis tomorrow which act as a barometer of just how far these Falcons have come.

8. Episcopal (1-1): Tough loss to traditional Philly power Episcopal Academy over the weekend. The Maroon have some pieces but hard to say at this point if they can act as a dark horse in the IAC this year. Big test with PVI later this week which should tell us if this Maroon team can act as contender or pretender in the VISA and IAC.

9. Saint Stephens (1-2): Nice win over Penn Charter this weekend. Tough loss earlier in the week to Christchurch. Saints lack depth this year but history has shown they improve a ton over the course of a season.

10. Riverside (1-): The Leesburg public school power had a great win over 2X defending VA Class 6 State Champion Madison in Overtime last week. Riverside plays St. Albans today which will be an interesting game to follow.

Some general observations thus far in the past 2 weeks.

Both the IAC and WCAC have not performed well against the MIAA thus far. Fans can point that this might be a down year for both the IAC and WCAC, and maybe that is true but one thing is very certain, both the WCAC and IAC are wide open this year. The gap in play between teams ranked 1 - 6 is thin this Spring which will make league play more exciting to follow. These rankings will gradually make more sense as the season pans out and more games are played.

Which one of the joke GC wins did you use to decide on placing them third?

Is this the same GC school that lost games by as much as 19 goals last year? Did the transfer portal treat them that well?

Yesterday PVI blasted Christchurch -- who was the VISAA #3 seed last year and had just thumped SSSA by 8 goals earlier in the week -- with the Panthers scoring 15 goals in the first half. The game was called at the end of the third quarter after Christchurch started a fight.

Crazy result after PVI struggled with a STAB team that was missing its two best players.

Well if you knew anything about the Haverford and the Landon match up, you would have known that it was going to be a defensive battle and low scoring for the bears. When the opposition has the number one fogo in both the 24 and 25 class you would expect not to have the ball much. The fact that the young Landon def held the fords to 5 goals in regulation is impressive itself. Having said that, I agree that the offense has to find the goal more to win in these big games. Based on what I’ve seen, and I am biased, but the bears will be the favorite to win the IAC

Thank you for the recap and insight. Should be fun. Sounds like they all have potential to take it.

From yesterday having watched Prep, Bullis and Landon. My take-none of those teams are very good right now.

Prep has a goalie and offense issue. And can use work on clearing. Defense is legit, but w/o solid goalie, stats will be mis-leading. Need more than Horning up front.
Bullis looks better on offense w some new/young middies getting more time and moving ball. Attack needs to lead. Defense is issue. Poles struggle both off/on ball.
Landon looks small physically. Can’t find net on offense, but has talent to improve. Defense is solid. 5 goals is just unacceptable.

IAC is wide open in a down year.

As usual? Pretty sure Bullis was the only one to pony up and play SJC last year when others couldn’t “fit” it in.

St. Johns has some great pieces on offense. Coach Speaks needs to hire a new OC after this season if not now.
