How will they be making a political statement? At the diocesan CYO basketball games masks are required at all practices and games and that runs under the Diocese. If anything they would be consistent when it comes to children and youth in the Arlington Diocese.
The EO is being reviewed by the Diocese in all aspects, this is not political, this is not defiance. This is a school system doing its due diligence.
Masks optional. Bad decision. This is going to be incredibly divisive.

How will they be making a political statement? At the diocesan CYO basketball games masks are required at all practices and games and that runs under the Diocese. If anything they would be consistent when it comes to children and youth in the Arlington Diocese.
The EO is being reviewed by the Diocese in all aspects, this is not political, this is not defiance. This is a school system doing its due diligence.

This is the way it's always been, principal recently communicated that they would continue to follow ACPS for weather-related closings but that they are working on determining an alternate policy. I don't know what's been communicated at Blessed Sacrament. Perhaps they already had advised parents they would not follow ACPS and that they should lookout for alternate communication. I do know that it was a long time between when ACPS called it and when BSSM called it. Usually it's minutes, last night it was probably an hour. I'm guessing there was some debate about it, or maybe someone was just out of pocket.

I can see a lot of teachers quitting if masks become optional. I can think of one amazing teacher who will most likely do so. She lives in a beautiful house and has no need to earn the pitiful salary she is paid as a Catholic school teacher. My daughter is her student and is adored by all in the community.

Oh it’s more than that. Masks are not just “no longer required” — per Governor Youngkin’s new executive order, schools (public and private) are FORBIDDEN from excluding students whose parents choose not to mask them.
Finally! Common sense prevails!
Come January 24th every school in this state will be asking for a lawsuit if it dares try to prevent a student from attending because she isn’t wearing a mask. And more than a lawsuit I want to see the Virginia National Guard open the doors at the point of a bayonet to enforce the law.
No more mandates forcing stupid pointless masks on our children.
Any word from the Diocese? Richmond Diocese is following the order. What does the Arlington Diocese say? In August, the Arlington diocese said all schools must follow the Governor EO? Do they have the same position now?

Really? Then why does St. Mary's follow ACPS? It doesn't make sense this year given that ACPS is doing online during snow days - their decision making framework isn't the same.
Because Blessed Sacrament has a different pastor and principal who don’t cater to neurotic Old Town families.
