A mother and father left their 1 year old baby with their roommate, and asked her to babysit the child while they were at work. They asked her to keep the pitbull away from the baby. The babysitter did not keep the pitbull away,. and the dog bit the child's face so severely you could see the baby's teeth through her cheek. The baby will need surgery, but thankfully is home and will heal. The pitbull in question attacked at least one other person in the past. The authorities have the dog, and are deciding whether or not to label it a vicious animal. If it is labeled legally vicious, the owner can keep it as long as they keep control of it at all times. This dog has already attacked two people, and that poor baby has a scar on her face for life. (Not to mention the emotional toll). There is no reason this dangerous pitbull should still be alive right now.

Fines for possessing them would help.

It’s the number of pit bulls that burst out of doors, jump over or dig under fences. With one in the neighborhood, we’re just not safe.
They really should be banned but the pro pittie (shudder) lobby in this country is out of control
I’m just wondering how to protect myself and my kid. I like to take walks, just like so many of the people who were mauled to death….

A woman was walking down the street in her neighborhood. Two pitbulls dug under the fence around their yard, escaped onto the street, and attacked the woman. They bit her arm, hand, thigh, and chest, and pulled her for several feet. Another neighborhood heard her yelling, ran to help, and was also attacked and bit by these dogs. The owner of the dogs is allowed to keep them as long he fulfills "a variety of requirements, including vaccinating the dogs for rabies, spaying or neutering them, muzzling them off the property, having them microchipped and have them attend a socialization training."
You cannot socialize vicious dogs, you can merely manage their behavior. The owner already failed once managing their behavior, the fence around his yard was not secure enough to keep them contained. There is no way to make these dogs friendly. There is no neighborhood without children, elderly people, or other pets, where they can safely live and avoid everything that "triggers" this type of aggression. Dogs like this should be humanely euthanized, in order to protect every person and friendly animal that lives in their neighborhood.
