Schools have been open for in person learning in much of the country for almost six months now. Seems pretty clear at this point that it’s safe.

This.

If it was actually unsafe, we’d see the evidence by now.

Look at the numbers. Half of the schools are open and daily deaths are over 2,000. Open all schools and simple math says we will have 4,000 dead every day.

I just want to highlight that this is some of the worst mathematical and logical reasoning I have ever seen.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw this comment. It's this kind of idiocy that has kept schools closed since March.

+1

Teachers have been arguing this the whole time! It reminds me of Trumpers, always finding a new justification for the nonsense that is going on.

+2. Their arguments definitely confirm a lack of critical thinking skills for some teachers posting. Also, I don't expect them to experts in virology/epidemiology, but like, be humble about it. Dunning-Kruger effect on display with many comments, and I cringe to think they're teaching our kids.

THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR KIDS.

wow. a novel and useful argument. "if you don't like it, leave!"

That’s what you all tell teachers! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a teacher be told to “quit” do they don’t want to return in-person.

If teachers don’t want to return to the classroom, then they should quit because they aren’t doing their jobs. It would be like a firefighter demanding to only fight fires from his or her couch, over Zoom.

Slightly different! One is: this situation isn't working and I would like to change it, but am being told to accept it or go, and the other is: I am not contributing to the improvement of a bad situation and am being told that I should go if I won't help.

No worries teachers, Bowser is working on getting you priority access to vaccines in January/Feb. If and when you get that priority access, there will be no more excuses to keep delaying school openings.

Did you see that news article from late last year where the DC plan was to give teachers early access to the vaccines? There were a ton of comments on the article from teachers saying that it wasn't fair that they had to take it. I honestly would not be surprised to see a lot of pushback from the union, arguing that teachers cannot be made to take vaccines, and yet have the right to teach from home indefinitely.

We have the fourth-lowest positivity rate in the country. Our infection rate is below 1.0.

And schools elsewhere, in places with much higher rates, have been open in person for almost six months without much problem.

It’s way past time to get kids back in the classroom.

Sorry, teachers. Vacation has to end sometime.

Ha ha! Thanks for telling me I’m on vacation. I did not realize it. Pretty stressful teaching high schoolers online. I don’t think in-person would be an upgrade until the pandemic is brought under control. Masks + hybrid + I teach at an overcrowded school so kids would get very little in person time anyway

And now CARES leave has been extended through March 31st. It’s hard to blame teachers who have their own kids—if MCPS and PGCPS aren’t opening, what are teachers supposed to do with their own kids?

"school isn't childcare but also, how will teachers work without schools to provide childcare for them??!?"

Yeah, this one takes the cake in terms of hypocrisy.
