Personally I would lean against moving to SWS, unless you love it that much to endure the swing space commute (and the transition for your third grader). SWS feeds into Eliot-Hine, which isn't likely to be better than your current feeder (E-H or Stuart Hobson), and your kid is already in third grade - time to think about that stuff. And you already like your current school. In any event, good luck with your decision.


What MS does your current ES feed into?

We gave up a year ago. If I ever have slight regrets about moving, and that is rare, a thread like this makes me very happy about the decision we made.


Cause trying is hard and if you try you might be disappointed? Great lesson for your kids there skippy.

PK3, but assume this means that DC is also not going to get in for PK4, since there will be even fewer seats available then.


I had waitlist numbers in the 600s! For PreK3. Didn’t even match initially at our inbound school, but did eventually get a spot there and a few others.

For prek4, we got into an amazing school and are very happy. So it could happen.

No way to sugar coat it, you had terrible luck. FWIW, we know at least half a dozen families who had similarly lousy PK3 luck and all of them ended up where they wanted to be by the time K rolled around (i.e., TR4, SWS, Stokes French, MV). Keep hope alive.

I assume good chance 1st grader will get offer from Lee? We are happy with Lee but since we are coming from an overseas French school wondering what chances are for Stokes for both kids with these numbers?

Last year, the data was up within a week. I was very impressed. But for this year, getting the data out is pretty low-priority (compared to actually getting the match results to people, and managing waitlists and enrollment) - I wouldn't blame them if it's later than that.

Just FYI: I looked at PK4 stats last year in NW schools. 1-9 on your list took 0 out of boundary students, even off the waitlist. I had a friends’ kid who had a ridiculously great lottery number, was the #1 OOB student on several of those waitlists, and never even sniffed an offer.

So you only had a shot at Tyler, JO Wilson, and Beers.

Stinks that the most indemand elementaries have so few PK seats.

If you saw my original post, my hopes were never up. Hence why I said, I would just stay private. I’m a realist. Tyler would be the only one I would consider out of those 3.



We just matched with Oyster OOB in PK4. Spanish dominant, so don't be too sure.


OP has zero chance of getting into Oyster PK4 OOB English dominant.
That might be THE hardest lottery shot in the entire city, in terms of number of applicants vs number of spots.

Oyster PK4 Spanish dominant is an entirely different kettle of fish.

Sorry, but you’re definitely not getting into Oyster. I’m IB, and two years for PK4 our number was 5 or 6. One spot opened up after October—our neighbor took the spot.


No one gets into Oyster PK (English dominant), unless you are inbounds sibling preference. Period.
No inbound/no siblings. No proximity. And no OOB.
