Anonymous wrote:OP here again after reading... what was the outcome of the Lakeland thread someone posted about?
I really think today is going to be the day things get real, since people were seriously up until midnight posting about this.

I took a PP’s advice and changed cars with my husband to go to work.
Apparently I do have a NextDoor account with messages now (?) and there are multiple messages of very angry people suggesting I donate to PETA, that I’m responsible for wasting taxpayers dollars since someone called the wildlife number and they came out but didn’t realize the goose already had a burial site, and all sorts of things.
I’m ignoring them.
There is also now a special meeting called by the HOA to deal with the geese and the strong reactions that have come out of this event.
One neighbor went so far as to say she didn’t want to live in a neighborhood where wildlife was being murdered in front of her children... which tells you the extent of the drama now.
I’m continuing to hide out and hope this goes away.

In DC you can call animal control and give them the location. They’ll take the animal to City Wildlife in NW DC, up by the Humane Rescue Alliance. City Wildlife will look at it and decide whether to euthanize or rehabilitate. No cost to you in time or $ except for phoning. You can call City Wildlife in a few hours or next day and they’ll tell you what they did.
I did this for a woodcock (an odd-looking migratory bird with a large beak). They told me they euthanized it. They even take pigeons apparently.
I don’t know about Maryland and geese made up by trolls.

Get over it, people. Wild animals either starve to death, die of disease, or are eaten alive by another animal. The ones who get shot or hit by a car at high speed probably suffer the least. Of course nobody wants an animal to suffer unnecessarily, but you are living in la-la-land if you think this goose somehow had a worse death than any of its brethren.
So that means it’s ok to inflict suffering and walk away? If someone hot your dog they should just leave it?![]()
I said wild animals. Some pets are lucky and get to be euthanized. Other pet lovers "love" their animals so much they allow them to suffer on long beyond what would be kind. I think OP should have called animal control, but that's not even a guarantee that the goose would be put down before it suffered for a long time. The kindest thing would have been to go back and whack the goose in the head with a shovel until it was dead, but then the OP really would have been ridden out on a rail by her "compassionate" neighbors.
Actually OP’s neighbors might have approved the home-made euthanasia.
Your distinction between pets and wild animals doesn’t make sense. I have a parrot (half-blind before you go off on me) and I know all birds are sentient and seem to have emotions. They can all certainly feel pain. Biologists are moving off the “only humans have feelings” paradigm.
