Family Engagement is a waste of space. Most of the staff is incompetent and a hassle to deal with. Parents will not even notoce if teacher coaching happens or doesn't. There's no way they'll pull back preschool furniture from a significant number of schools-- where would it go? It is mostly used and in bad condition anyway. And if they are really increasing the UPSFF by 4%, that can cover anything truly needed. Most parents will not notice a big difference, or any difference.

Nothing in the letter suggests that PK will look different at all. Also, I don't understand the "insider" lists that have VN and LT on them. VN is no longer T1. LT is losing its status for next school year. The principal has already made that announcement officially and the PTO is figuring out how to take over the aftercare program. Neither of those schools is unexpectedly losing HS because of this grant issue. That makes me think the person making up lists is... making up lists.

One note for schools losing T1 — you may also lose teachers who are pursuing certain loan forgiveness for teaching in high needs schools.

Also, this letter doesn't say anything at all about different categories of schools, etc like this thread does. This just says that the HS grant expired and they're re-applying. Everyone already knew that.

The OP told everyone something obvious to anyone who knows Head Start, failed to provide any documentation, even that which could be easily googled, and was boring and repetitive. Same posts over and over with inconsistent lists of schools that "might" be affected.

There is some major league resource hoarding on this thread.

The quality of programming at many of the Title I schools losing Head Start is going to deteriorate. Head Start provided a lot of monitoring for things like health and safety and curriculum implementation. Schools will no longer be held to these standards and the programming will be lackluster at best.

Hi Internet. Today, let's not fight over whether someone is hypocritical for wanting high quality PK for all kids, or whether anonymous internet posters were mean, or whether people should have done something differently in the past. Let's get back to discussing what we can do now. (Not very dcum, but a change is as good as a rest, etc.)

So, if you are concerned that your PK might not have the support and funding it needs to provide a high quality environment to all its students (from head start or the city or otherwise), then we should think about what to do. A PP above posted the number for the Deputy Mayor for Education office line--(202) 727-3636.

Anyone else have any other ideas???

The highly desirable charters don’t have the low income kids to even consider to apply. They have figured out how to provide ECE with the money they receive. Much less money than title 1 school.
