Personally , i will feel lots of satisfaction if law breakers are given the appropriate applicable sentence.

This poor black teenager was held for 3 years at Rikers on suspicion of stealing a backpack because his family couldn't post bond. A backpack. He committed suicide when he was released because he was so traumatized.

https://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/09/nyregion/kalief-browder-held-at-rikers-island-for-3-years-without-trial-commits-suicide.html Think about this when you're feeling bad that Aunt Becky may spend a few days in jail for hundreds of thousands of dollars in fraud.

Lori Loughlin has always had a very squeaky clean, girl-next-door image.

And she married a handsome designer & was blessed w/two drop-dead gorgeous daughters.

She was still getting acting gigs plus her hubby was very successful in his career.

Why toss all of that away?
That is the downside to being wealthy.
Your mind-set is that you can buy success, etc. all w/the drop of a dime.

But it’s not okay.
Perhaps a kid who deserved to attend that same school lost out on a chance for future career success because his parents didn’t have $500,000 to bribe someone with.
And they likely didn’t have the connections that celebrities have.

What?! They are all so plain looking, D list celebrities. All PS and make up. Thandie Newton's daughter and Jolie's kids are gorgeous. Gwyneth's daughter too.

So University admission takes into account looks, celebrity status?

However, I think other than this these women have led pretty exemplary lives. I didn't think Martha should have been sent to jail and I don't think they should, either. Jails are bursting as it is and there are many people that are doing a lot worse yet to be caught because of.....resources?

Fine them, tax them, give them community service. Make them pay tuition for others or give scholarships.

Lori needs to be filming When Calls the Heart-Mom's favorite show.

you don't know that they've lead exemplary lives! the media and celebrities show you only what they want to show you.

and they need to do at least A LITTLE jail time, plus community service, have all their taxes looked at by the IRS, and make an actual real non-tax deductible donation to the school that must be used for scholarships for the lowly and underprivileged-s who's spots were taken by their own undeserving children.

I have to disagree. What Huffman did was exactly that - the outcome was that her child's SAT scores were a LIE. A lie is a lie, is a lie....

Agree. The sheer number of dishonest people on this thread is astonishing. There is no integrity left in the US. If I got caught cheating or lying---man, my parents would have thrown down. Now the parents are doing it for the kids. And the extent they went to is just disgusting.

I remember back in the day that the College Board used to investigate whenever a single person got wildly different SAT scores on two different attempts, e.g., like a 400 point increase!!!!

I love that Kelly Ripa said they paid for all kinds of tutors and it only got her kid a 7 point bump - so true for most people.

I think paying for someone to fix your SAT scores is one of the most egregious revelations to come out of this. It undermines the whole system. Worse than passing your kid off as a star athlete.

They still do that. A young woman from a regular family had her test scores invalidated and the College Board refuses to release them.

Meanwhile Lori over here is paying $500K to get someone to both create new scores for her idiot daughter AND get her admitted to college.

That is why people are mad.

Lori Loughlin’s daughter was doing really well without college on her YouTube channel/Instagram and now nobody will take her seriously. Her other daughter wanted to be an actress and she had a good shot with her parents’ connections, but who will hire her now? Their formerly pristine images are shot. People are really angry because they are the symbol of rich privilege and entitlement.

My DH pointed out that they probably saw this as a victimless crime, and he doesn’t necessarily think they should do jail time.

They shouldn’t do jail time.

And you are overestimating the younger crowd who would be interested in the daughter doing the lifestyle brand. The only ppl who care about this are older ppl. Most ppl already know the rich are privileged and entitled. They follow those ppl bc they want to be rich and privileged. There is a reason the Kardashians, for example, can remain relevant even though they have scandals and are disgusting.

+1, this is a huge waste of resources to put someone in jail like this. Kids should get kicked out of school and parents should get fined or something but that's it. The parents are fully to blame and I don't get why you'd want to encourage your child into that lifestyle that her daughter is living. No good can come of it and she is doing that child a disservice by basically selling her body.

Good thing is we have laws that disagree with your assessment . You seem stupidly oblivious to the corrosive effect that institutional corruption can have on the stability of a society , or is it a huge waste of ressources only when it involves certain people ?
