DP. You're the one saying that it's a trade-off, as though you can either have educational quality or diversity, but not both. Consider examining that assumption. Indeed, consider the possibility that diversity is a contributing factor to educational quality.

Also keep in mind that "diversity" does not mean "a bunch of Hispanic and African-Americans (not Africans)". It means diversity.

especially : the inclusion of different types of people (such as people of different races or cultures) in a group or organization
programs intended to promote diversity in schools

Diversity is extremely important to me and a critical consideration in deciding what makes a school good or "the best". Judging by the number of similar families in our cluster (and by the spread of ethnic minorities in MoCo in general), I'm not alone in my thinking.

Another Asian immigrant here who deliberately looked for diverse schools. Education is super important to me but I knew well enough to analyze the ratings and test scores and to look beyond them. We are happy at Clarksburg.

Another Asian parent here. Also looked for diversity when picking a school. No minority kid likes being the only one.

As a parent I want the best possible educational environment I can get my dc into, really don’t give two f s what anyone thinks. I owe this to my dc as doesevery other parent on this board. This isn’t about skin color, not at all.

Hoo boy. I have been teaching in MOCO for 21 years. I have taught at high SES schools and low SES schools. High SES students have as many problems -- family and otherwise -- as low SES students. Teachers, counselors, pupil personnel workers and other administrative types know this; parents do not seem to know this.

HoCo is actually the most segregated school system in the state. Not by hyperbole, by actual data. So....great. PP lives in a highly segregated area. I hope that works out for their kids, but I kind of doubt it will. It is always the kids from highly segregated schools that end up in the news when they don't realize it's not nice to sing racist chants at the back of the lacrosse bus.

Serious for a second. You can rent or get a condo in the top pyramids. No reason why anyone can't do that. Asians generally do this to get into the best pyramids even when they aren't making that much money and then people wonder why Asians are doing so well it's because they value education the most.

I own multiple houses and live in a great pyramid; however, I don't begrudge others their due.

Actually these things do exist out in higher ranked areas too. The Shady Grove red line is close to W schools so there are parents who drive 5-10 minutes and then take the metro. There are farmers markets all over. Many areas that feed into RM are walkable -Fallsgrove, RTC and there are tons of farmers markets. Wootton is getting an area with Trader Joe's, restaurants etc off Travilah RD. Churchill has Park Potomac and the Village. QO has Lakelands and the Kentlands.

I live in Fallsgrove. What exactly is Fallsgrove walkable to other than the shopping center in Fallsgrove and I guess the Trader Joe's in Travilah but there's no sidewalks walking there? Also Park Potomac is zoned for RM cluster, not Churchill.
