I cannot believe that people are confused about this. It's a pretty basic concept - and reap/sow is the SAME concept as corn/beans.

That is - what you put out into the world (what you sow / the corn you plant) is what will come back toy in the world (what you reap / corn not beans).

I do not wish any ill to the people that have not treated me well or to be green with envy of others. Why bother? We all have our own paths. Life is not easy by any means, but we should be thankful for what we have .

In Christianity the concept of sowing and reaping is somewhat along these lines but it doesn't accompany gloating. It really is geared towards modulating *your* behavior. If you want a good relationship with adult children, don't be a narcissistic jerk. Things like that.

If others reap what they sow, the observation is made but not a reason to revel in just a reminder to sow what you hope to reap for the things you can control (obviously not illness, accidents, etc.)

Also, I don't think the entire thread is horrible as some say. Trying to report a person who is a citizen when your own visa has expired and results in getting deported is a lesson for the individual about their own vengefulness. This is *very* different from delighting in a high school bully's pain when you are supposed to be an objective first responder.

Some of these are really good cautionary tales about the importance of treating others well, because one just may reap the pain intentionally sown into the lives of others.

*intentionality is important b/c getting struck by an illness when you haven't caused others to be ill is not deserved. but being estranged from loved ones when you've sown division shouldn't come as a surprise*

I once had a really terrible boss. He owned his own company. I took a smaller salary than I wanted but he promised me a great raise if I worked well and stayed a year. Year came but he said he was not given out raises. I quit and found a better job. One morning on the news I heard his business burned to the ground overnight. Couldn't have happened to a nicer person!

Karma is BS< Bad things happen to good people, as PP noted, and good things happen to bad people, ALL THE TIME. And sometimes good comes to good and bad comes to bad.

It is all random. Maybe the guy passing you on the right who blew his tire was late for job interview, or his baby was being born, or he was feeling ill. Maybe earlier that day he helped someone at home and that is why he was late and speeding. Or maybe he's an aggressive driver a-hole all the time

Does all this mean he DESERVED to almost kill himself and others because karma?

IDK. I try to take longview and I am old enough to see that an occasional piece of poetic justice doesn't mean the universe gives a fig.

I have no use in seeking revenge and basically assume (or hope) that bad behavior eventually catches up to someone. What really bothers me is when bad things happen to good people.
