Cutting edge curriculum?? Does she just hope that no one read the JHU audit or ever experienced 2.0? The audit was scathing and nothing about 2.0 ever was cutting edge. Jack Smith must either be mortified or just wants to quit - which is what the old MCPS guard is hoping will happen.
As for Discovery Education, the Discovery main company just recently dumped this section of the business. A firm out in SF bought them. I hope they tank quickly. No one needs more garbage from incompetent MCPS staff.

I’ll write some letters to hogan and Smith next week.
This place is pathetic. It is every stereotype come alive of why public schools suck.
Us too. Starting in private in the fall and have no regrets.
Terrific. The private school forum is thataway ---------------->
I love that this is so often the reaction you all have to someone opting out.
Complain about MCPS? Absolutely! Let's create 10,000 threads!
Say you're opting out of MCPS? WE SCORN YOU, YOU EVIL TRAITOR!
Not at all. Just that, if you're so out of here, with no regrets, what are you doing lingering on the Maryland Public Schools forum?

Then if the highest ranking Curriculum person for Discovery Ed was at MCPS until 2015, how can they claim they were unaware that Erick Lang was connected to the RFP process? And how can Maria Navarro parrot that line?

Starts w terrible curriculum in ES, way too large of class sizes. Very young teachers, Chromebook overuse.
Moves on to extremely large middle schools with no differentiation, little sense of community, cuts on most arts and sports teams, overcrowded schools and 30-33 kids per class, continued bad curriculum and low quality assignments.
Finishes with a sink or swim huge high school experience with 33-35 kids per class, no final exams cumulative learning, rounds up grades to highest single grade (no way to delineate betweeen top students or ok students, most get As), cuts on almost all extracurricular, sports teams are only for club/travel team trained kids, minimal college application counseling.

Connecting the dots. The Chief Academic Officer/VP of Curriculum and Instruction of Discovery Education is Marty Creel. Mr. Creel worked for MCPS for 25 years and left in 2015. His last position was Director in charge of curriculum. Mr. Creel is not the only Discovery Education employee to come from MCPS.

None of this is surprising to anyone who understands how corrupt government is at all levels. Remember, it's not what you know, it's who you know.
