Take this with a grain of salt, because I am not confident DC is a reliable reporter, but he claims the humanities teacher stated many students currently have Cs and Ds in her class this quarter because they're not turning in their essay assignments. Dc believes those kids only care about the Math and Science units.

I only know mine is, due to the letter. But my guess is that most of the 5th grade CES students are also 99 composite COGAT students with high MAP scores etc.,. and will also get in. My DC tells me most are STEM kids (apparently the CES humanities teacher often complains about kids not doing her work), so I just don't know how many will get into the math course only, or both courses. I don't have enough direct knowledge to guess, and also don't know how many sections will be offered. The most important thing is that the peer cohort will be there, which is great.

How much increase numbers wise is there overall at Pyle next year? Are the 7th and 8th grade classes bigger than typical too?

The current seventh grade at Pyle is smaller than the eighth grade, although I think the average grade size is roughly 500. If there are 600 incoming sixth graders, that will be the largest class while my kids were at Pyle (my older is at Whitman now).

Clue in this uninformed Pyle parent, please - are these accelerated classes just offered to the incoming sixth graders? To my knowledge, no one has mentioned any accelerated math or humanities classes next year for my current seventh grader.

Yes, just to the class of 6th graders that got tested as part of the pilot program.

I talked with a school counselor. there are about 25 students per each section. School did not determine the list of students who may qualify for the new courses. Basically, the list was sent to a local school from AEI.

Has anyone received a letter from Westland? Any idea how many kids/sections for each class?ff

That means, at Hoover, about 33% will be taking Applied IM and about 17% for Global Humanitites.

At Hoover, 4 sections for Applied IM and 2 sections for Global Humanities. All sections are already full and that cutoff was decided by the county.
