Subject: Take a knee during Pledge of Allegiance in VA Elementary school?
What do little kids have to protest? Get up and put your hand over your heart before I bust you into next week. Northern VA where people spend 3/4 of a mil on a house so their children can live amongst the best and yet little kids protest the anthem that represents our great nation? Just call your mom now snowflake, because after the pledge, she will need to pick you up! Unbelieveable.

If there is any fixed star in our constitutional constellation, it is that no official, high or petty, can prescribe what shall be orthodox in politics, nationalism, religion, or other matters of opinion or force citizens to confess by word or act their faith therein. If there are any circumstances which permit an exception, they do not now occur to us.

Someone who entered high school after the Vietnam war was over is barely a baby boomer, if they are at all. It is only in recent times that I've heard people born in the late 50s and early 60s called baby boomers. When I was growing up, Boomers were born between 1945 and 1955 and the term referred to kids whose parents had returned from serving in WWII. They were in their teens and twenties when I was a little kid, and my growing up years were very different than theirs.
People born in the early 60s had a very different growing up experience than the Boomers.

Boomers grew up under the threat of attack from USSR. Krushchev and the shoe. (look it up!)
Space race
We had a trial evacuation where the whole school was driven out into the countryside (fear of nuclear bomb)
We were very aware of all the ramifications of the Vietnam War. Most soldiers in Vietnam were boomers--or maybe slightly older.
We only had three channels on tv--if we had a tv.
Different experience from those born in the '60s

Teacher here. I stopped saying on the first day of my first teaching job. It suddenly dawned on me what an absurdly archaic bit of propaganda and indoctrination it was. I just stand, but don't face the flag or speak. The kids do it, though, without me telling them anything.
