Here's the thing: This is a big deal to the military mission. There are plenty of other ways for transgenders to serve. They can be civilian employees, etc.
What is the military mission? How does this affect the military mission? Thanks.
I hope the mission is and will always be keeping US citizens safe. Sort of like an air traffic controller. Keep the planes safe in the sky. I don't want a air traffic controller sick from his or her hormones or more worried about personal issues than the job at hand.
There are transgender members of the military now. Yet, the institution is not collapsing.

Suggest you read the twitter link posted earlier. The vet from the Iraqi firebase acknowledges that it is tough on everyone there--even the men. If you read it, I don't see how you cannot understand the issue.
FWIW, women do not currently serve in that job. Almost no women are in the infantry at present. The rules with transgenders could be quite confusing.

Same reason for banning women, right? After all, we're affected negatively by hormones at least one week out of the month.![]()

Umm ... you never complete the hormones. It's lifetime maintenance.
So, there isn't one member if the armed forces who currently take a pill or pills for something on a daily basis? No generals taking Lipitor?
Whee does the military stand, say, if a man who survived testicular cancer wants to join? Or a woman who developed breast cancer at 22 and list both breasts?
Whoa -- I was actually pointing that out in favor of the trans troops. My point is that this idea that you could have a pure post-op DADT policy is impossible. Trans troops will be "out," at least to their doctors, unless they choose to serve as the gender assigned at birth and never act as their true gender.
