these are my favorite kind of vacations. I love the beach, I love the ocean in all hues but especially the clear turquoise you find in the Caribbean, and I love sitting in the sun with a good book. But all of these types of vacations are interchangeable.

I guess I like seeing unique places (like scenery or culture that exists nowhere else on the planet).

Also the beaches I go to have kayaking, and rock climbing wall, with other activities. Not sure what beach you go to OP…but it’s far from boring.

What is it with mini golf and the beach? Why do people who go to the beach like to play this game? There's almost no mini golf elsewhere.

Beach vacations aren't my personal favorite, but it's what we usually do since we like to vacation with extended family and it's something that everyone can enjoy: grandparents, sibling with disabilities, teens, little kids, babies. Everyone finds an activity level that suits them, and there's no particular schedule. It's also budget-friendly compared to having to fly to a destination or buying every meal out.

Beach vacations are great, because part of it is a little boring…that’s the appeal- relaxing and not doing much. We’ve had a lot of great family trips- Europe, Caribbean, mountains out West, Disney…etc. Kids loved them all, but still look forward to beach vacations. If you don’t like “boring” vacations, we always find plenty of activities- swim, boggie board, beach volleyball, fishing, sea kayaking, biking…etc.

Any beach at any locale wouldn’t make my top 25 list of favorite choices to spend a vacation. Borrrrrring.

I don’t love sole just beach vacations. I do love walking on the boardwalk, eating seafood, getting ice cream, going swimming, etc. my kids like to fish, play tennis and bike too.

I personally love flying somewhere, staying at a luxury beach resort with nice spa. Hawaii type places.

I have not been but big house on remote beach does not appeal to me at all. I don’t want to cook all my meals. We already live in a large house so don’t need space at a beach house.

I grew up with access to the beach it was nice, I’d do my homework out in the sun and just listen to the waves.

Now planning my vacation with my nephew and nieces I think it’s a time to just spend time as a family without waiting in long line for rides/tourist traps, being stressed out, and trying to fit as much as possible into x amount of days. You bring what you want to the beach house, enjoy our favorite type of food, and bond with extended family.

Wait, you dug up this old thread to let us know how little you think of your coworker’s beach vacation? Methinks you doth protest too much.

The older I get, the more I appreciate it. We just did a few days at the beach after Christmas, and its not just the time at the beach with the kids I enjoy. I also went for morning runs along the water and watched the sunrise, and we'd get ice cream after dinner and go sit on the boardwalk with it. We did a few other things in the little beach town -- some mini golf and a few meals on outdoor patios. It was just very relaxing in general. I did a lot of reading, slept incredibly well, got in some exercise that didn't feel like a chore, and spent plenty of quality time with my DH and kids.

Is it the ONLY type of vacation I want to go on? No, of course not. My favorite is definitely exploring a new city, preferably out of the country, including a few days in the surrounding countryside if we can. That's ideal to me -- museums, great food, people watching, learning about another culture, seeing a different climate and terrain. But for a long weekend or even a spring break trip, 3-4 days on the beach is lovely and focuses on recharging, spending time in nature, and spending time together. That's nice.

That sounds amazing. I grew up with a parent who would schedule a ton of activities every minute of every vacation, and it sucked. Sitting on a beach doing nothing but reading a book and sipping a cold drink, listening to the waves roll in…paradise.
