My husband hobnobs with DC types more, but I mainly find those insufferable. I did enjoy meeting Anthony Kennedy, who is as gracious as he can be pretentious. I was in a jury pool with Judy Woodruff, which I thought was pretty cool. And have had occasion to talk to Eric Holder, Mike Mukasey and Jim Comey.

Outside the DC-famous, I met Maya Angelou, and also a fair number of indie rock musicians. And once managed to stutter out a hello to Bruce Springsteen before melting into a puddle of incoherent awe. Oh, and I met a bunch of writers at a literary festival a few years back. Carried a briefcase for John Grisham, but also got to say hello to Rita Dove and Derek Walcott.

(I have an old friend who is good friends with Lin Manuel Miranda, which I feel should someday translate into Hamilton tix for me. But we're not close anymore, sadly.)

what a great story. I love that man. He brought joy to so many through his work. I'm sad he couldn't beat his own demons.

My MIL used to babysit for friends of Mr. Rogers. Once when she was babysitting, she called the parents and Mr. Rogers answered the phone. She loves to tell this story.

Rick Rubin, at a club in LA. He invited a friend and I to a party with a couple of guys that later turned out to be the guitarist and bassist from SOAD. The incredibly nice door guy at that particular club ended up as their drummer, not long before they got huge.

Jim Neighbors. Near his home on Diamond head. I was running the hills while training for a marathon.

Sinbad! 4am at the Dallas airport. I was exhausted and traveling alone with my then 1 year old. My DH was deployed during Desert Storm. He bought me a muffin. So sweet!

Shep Smith. Many, many times. He has a condo in Oxford and goes to a lot of home games. I've been to several parties with him.

No one super big, but I'm easily impressed.
