"Official as of this morning January 25, 2017:
DoD is under a hiring freeze. Per OSD direction: It applies to all prospective employees who had not entered onto duty as of 12 noon, January 22, 2017. It further applies to appointments of current Federal employees from other agencies into the DoD or a Military Department; appointments of current Federal employees moving between or within the DoD and a Military Department or between Military Departments; and reassignments or promotions of current Federal employees within any organization of the DoD or a Military Department. And it applies regardless of the status of any preexisting hiring discussions, tentative offers, or steps in preparation for a firm offer (such as drug testing or security investigations)."
If this is actually DOD's guidance, I'm sure most other agencies will do the same.
Not cool.
The person who summarized this was not very clear. They say that it applies to "all prospective employees who had not entered onto duty as of 12 noon, January 22, 2017." Then it says it applies regardless of steps in preparation for a firm offer. There are a lot of people who have a firm offer and a start date (say, Jan. 30). But they did not EOD on Jan. 22, 2017. So is the poster saying that if they had a firm offer before Jan. 22 but had not started, they are out of luck?

Ugh. Doesn't bode well for me. I'd accepted the offer--also with USDA--but hadn't been given an EOD date yet. Doubt my position (writer/editor) can be spun into mission critical.(Although good writing is ALWAYS critical! Haha.)
Does anyone know if these offers could be honored after the freeze is lifted? That is, we tread water in current jobs for three months, and then they bring us on? Or will everything have to be re-competed?
FYI this is for a IT position with USDA.

I'm interested in the answer to this as well. I interviewed for a DOJ position recently and still haven't heard anything back.
