I understand what mutual back scratching and virtue signalling is.
I'm the signature "community." So we should be good here.
That's fine. Everyone who wants to use a signature is and always has been free to do so. Further, you signature community people can feel free to ignore anyone who doesn't want to be a part of the signature community. Insisting that everyone must participate in your signature community as a condition of posting in threads is unreasonable and unrealistic.
So, why don't you stop riding that particular hobby horse?
Ultimately, however, I don't buy the idea that we should be approving other posters' chosen names.
Of course not, because the name you adopted for yourself, even if someone else came up with it for you, is just more virtue signalling. YOU want to be the sole arbiter of whether or not you are a "liberal theist." And you obviously don't want anyone else to be able to challenge that appellation. If you are "liberal theist" then by definition anything you state as an opinion is implied to be that of a "liberal theist." You're confusing the map with the territory by having picked a value-laden screen name. You did it deliberately for propaganda purposes. I'm going to assume, since I'm a cynical sort, that anyone who calls themselves a "liberal theist" is actually far from it, and trying to be deceptive.
Handles should be designators only if they are to be used. They should not contain unverifiable descriptions which the handle-users invariably choose to reflect favorably on themselves. Maybe it is more accurate for your handle to be "egotistical theist" or "self-deluding theist" or "dishonest theist."
I don't even see the problem, because if "SweetiePie" turns out to be the nastiest troll here, then that'll be obvious to everyone. You're not even telling us your ID, and I'm definitely not up for letting randos choose our names for us.
No, I'm not telling you my ID. Neither are you, actually, because calling yourself "liberal theist" is as lacking in transparency as remaining "anonymous." It's not a real ID. It's a pseudonym. Randos don't need to choose your names for you since the names are irrelevant other than as an obvious propaganda tool to give yourself credit for characteristics that might not actually be accurate or relevant.

Out of curiosity - where did "liberal" come from? I missed the origin.

I believe because she advocated for usernames and another poster accused her of voting for Trump and supporting voter ID laws and big brother

Yes, that's it! That poster had said there's basically a straight line between DCUM usernames to voter ID cards and accused me of voting for Trump.
