Maybe relaxed because they were drunk?

I think a PR trip to rehab is in Lochte's near future. He's probably having a minor mental breakdown anyway as a result of his poor Olympic performance.

I'm inclined to believe the Brazilians on this (not Brazilian, never even been to the country).

Because at the end of the day, most men, even Olympians, are still disgusting juvenile animals who get jollies off of marking their territory.

No, I don't believe the Rio authorities.

The gas station owner isn't pressing charges because he got his money. They are not denying that their security guard (most likely a moonlighting police officer) pulled a gun and demanded money to cover the repairs to the damage caused by Lochte et al.

Why don't you believe this? It makes way more sense than Lochte's version of events.

Then they were robbed. In civilized society you call the police for vandalism, you don't go renegade and try to shoot someone.

I guess the US is not a civilized society then. Just ask BLM.

Lochte's teammates told police that the story had been fabricated by Lochte.

Exactly! If this is what actually happened it makes the Brazilians look even crazier--off duty cops resolving vandalism complaints by threatening to shoot people--wow, sign me up for a family vacation there!

I can how the swimmers believe they were robbed if someone pulled out a gun and demanded money. The video shows them exiting the area where the bathroom is, but it is not clear that they broke something.

I think Lochte knew they would eventually discover the story was fabricated and left before the authorities could question or detain him about it. If you think about it, he is a publicity hound and is always seeking attention. Why would he leave Rio so soon after the incident happened? If what he said was true, why not stick around a few more days and enjoy the events? He has always been in Phelps' shadow and tries to get attention any way he can. So, he made up a story about being robbed when he and his teammates were actually drunk and behaving badly.

Where's the actual source besides "Brazilian investigators" (who haven't been able to keep their story straight either?

Why didn't security dude call the police? Or maybe he did, and Lochte et al really were attacked by the police?
