This is a false analogy.
Were all drugs legal, they would be much, much easier to get. Right now, you can't simply walk into WalMart and buy some crack cocaine or heroin or percocet.
But if you want to own a gun, march into WalMart and lay down your money. Or go to a gun show and you can buy any gun you'd like with no fear of a background check.
Making assault weapons illegal would make them much harder to get. There would be fewer mass shootings. Countries with strict gun control laws do not have anywhere near the number of gun deaths as we have in the US.
There have been 16 mass shootings in Obama's presidency. Each time the President asks for more gun control. Each time, the NRA-backed Republicans refuse to back even the smallest changes to gun control laws. More shootings, more pleas, more families destroyed, more lives lost, and it continues and continues.
When will the sane people stand together and say enough is enough?? Too many people have died in mass shootings in which the shooters used assault weapons!! Ban them!! It's not a perfect solution, but it's a start.
