Sadly, it was. I spoke with someone who spoke to a witness at the scene who saw it all happen. Car full of 4 young people on River Road inbound (to DC) in the lane to make a left turn. The car sat there even though there was room to make the left, then finally when teh car DID make the left, it was directly in front of an oncoming vehicle. Speculation is that the 4 young people were headed to the play at Whitman tonight.
I don't know if the 3 fatalities were in that car, but the information I have is the car ended up in the ditch, all airbags deployed, and people on the scene (before EMS arrived) were unable to get the passengers out. The jaws of life were used to finally extricate them.
Stop spreading gossip.

I keep thinking of all the milestones in her life for which she'll be alone. I wonder if she'll get to stay at her school - or if she'd want to - or if her relatives are located someplace else and she'd have to move there. So sad for this child.
Her grandparents, aunt, and uncle are all local.

I feel like with these tragedies there's always fundraising but it's never clear why exactly. I imagine she has health insurance -- though I also don't know how that would work now bc if she's on her mother or father's plan and they are deceased, what happens to any dependents on the plan? Seems like the father was a lawyer, so hopefully there's a will and/or trust to pay the mortgage and provide for the daughter -- but I honestly don't know how common these set ups are or whether people just don't do them bc who thinks about these kinds of freak accidents.
She's a high school sophomore who has just lost both of her parents and her big brother in a horrific car accident. I have no idea what this family's finances were but it might take time to sort that all out anyway. In the meantime there is a young girl who has just lost her entire family and is seriously injured herself. She probably doesn't have quick access to much money herself.
People want to feel like they are doing something. Contributing to a fund for Helena seems appropriate to me. I have a kid her age and I just can't imagine....poor girl.
+1. It's just about doing something to help. Even if the family is financially solid, accounts and trusts will need to be transferred to her, lawyers may be needed for that - at age 15, she doesn't have quick access. Not to mention, right now she's in no physical or mental condition to deal with all that so it's likely that next of kin will just step up and start paying - this money will likely go to them for immediate expenses for Helena and her parents and brother and this way, they won't need to "collect" from her when she does get access to funds -- not saying they would if they are financially solid -- but I have to believe bills will start arriving right away from the auto insurance deductible to hospital premiums to whatever else.
Curious if you that are donating donated to the families that were killed in the church van in PG county a few weeks ago?

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Why are people so concerned with what happened and how? What does assigning blame even do now -- 3 people paid with their life and this poor teen girl is now an orphan. If her dad misjudged -- well he and his family paid the ultimate price. If the BMW driver was at fault -- well that still doesn't bring this family back together again.
Because either way a lesson need to be learned and hopefully we can all don our best not to let this happen again.
