I do all the laundry, because we made an agreement that I would do that if he would do all the dishes. I fold all of it, but I don't put it away for him. I don't know where it all goes.

DW here. I do all the laundry in the house and I wash and fold both plus kids.
I do not put away DH though. I put away everyone else's.

He can put his away where he wants it to go.

DH here. I do all my laundry, fold and put away. Our 11 and 8 year olds fold and put away their laundry. The younger one is very neat in putting things away, the older 11 (girl) puts things away sloppily and her drawers are a mess after a couple days. I get that some folks are sloppy but to lack the skills to do laundry is odd to me. I can't comment on ADHD and how it affects one's ability to fold clothes - is this really a thing?

Everyone in our house knows how to do the laundry including the 9 year old. That being said I do 75% of the laundry and will fold everything. I put away mine and dh, the kids come get their pile and put theirs away. No folding and putting away dh laundry just seems petty. When dh mows the lawn he mows all of it, not just his portion. Of course we also have a shared bank account where both pay checks get deposited and no one tracks his money vs my money. This works for us. You do what works for your family.

I do all the laundry, and fold and put away mine, and kids and household. I leave DH’s sorted pile on his side of the bed to fold and put away. He has a certain way of folding things so he just does it. DH will sometimes do laundry too - if I’m away, when we had a newborn, if he wants something specific that’s in the laundry. He did his own for years before we married, I just mostly do it now because I’m home with the kids.

I'd blame his PARENTS - both Mommy and Daddy for his lack of life skills as an adult.

I wasn't assuming anything. Notice I said "blame yourself" so that could mean either mom OR dad. I'm the pp. I think at some point the person who is messy needs to take responsibility. Not the mom and not the dad. How long to do parents get the blame and why do assume the moms ( majority of them) did not try to get their kids to shape up?


PP, let's get real. Most moms get the blame for the kids. I don't think at a certain point that should happen.

Can I just comment on the "teaching kids to do laundry" nonsense? I'm 51. I've been married for 29 years. I've been mom for 27 years. All five of my kids are grown. I did all the laundry in our home, to include folding and putting it away. The summer before my kids left for college, I showed them how to do laundry. Maybe my children are just especially brilliant??? But they picked up this skill very quickly. If your kids need more than about 15 minutes to learn to do laundry, they should probably reconsider leaving home. This is not a skill that requires much time to master.

Fold yes, put away sometimes, but not much. It sits on his side of the bed and he does it when he sees it.

I do my own laundry and the kids laundry and a few loads of household laundry. My DH has always done his own laundry. And since he started doing one WFH day a week, he is now in charge of all the linens (sheets and towels). I still help with those, but he takes the lead most of the time.

We both work full time and we both WFH one day a week.
