Yes, teenagers make poor decisions everywhere, no matter how smart or rich or whatever. You can't judge a high school by anecdotes of dumbass things students there did. Any high school in the country is going to supply lots of stories back and forth.

Every time I suggest on this forum that all I schools are good I set off a hornet's nest somehow, but I'm a slow learner. . . . These numbers are *really* good, across the board. McLean has a lot of "drug" offenses, but that could simply be because enforcement is stricter. Everything from cigarettes to PCP gets bundled into that category, so that might be a lot of kids getting busted puffing on a cig behind the dumpster between classes. Again, might just be tougher enforcement. I doubt that there is a lot of hard drugs or alcohol *in school* at any of these schools. When you consider how large these schools are, the small numbers of offenses against other students and staff are de minimus in all of these schools (although, again, that could be the result of low enforcement). Madison and Marshall seem to have higher incidents of "disorderly and disruptive behavior." Query whether some of the offenses that might have gone into other categories get put there. Or maybe that has a lot to do with the administration taking "official" action against students in a higher percentage of incidents. But however you look at it, we should be happy that all of our schools appear to be really safe places for our kids to attend. Remember, these schools have around 2000 teenagers with underdeveloped frontal lobes, and these are stats for the entire years. I doubt even a military academy could get its numbers much better. At the end of the day, we need to take a step back from the quibbling about whose school is better than who else's school, and appreciate that we're dealing with a pretty elite batch of schools here.

It wasn't a big deal, but I'm also quite sure Jay Pearson wanted his numbers on infractions to look good.

FWIW, my son was a varsity athlete at GCM his freshman year.

He ended up having a good year. It's a decent school.

On the other hand, the jocks who gave him a hard time for sitting at "their" table had an 0-10 season.

I grew up in Co and the rich kids there always did the drugs - the hard stuff too. They had the money to spend so the dealers always went there.

Same thing here - I'm willing to bet the richest kids are the biggest drug users for two reasons:
1. They have the expendable cash from daddy's account to spend on drugs
2. They have the ability to have rich lawyers to get them out of any trouble they get themselves into.

Rich kids with their sense of entitlement don't think bad stuff will happen to them - most live in a bubble. Not all, but most I think.

I worked my way up from nothing and my spouse and I have a really nice house, two awesome vehicles and plenty of money. We both came from middle class, lower middle class backgrounds and understand the value of hard work, and have seen what drugs can do to people so we didn't do them. One thing my child will learn is they're not invincible and there is always repercussions for your actions. If I find drugs on my child - off to military school they go.

Some upperclass jocks decided that he sat at the wrong table for lunch and poured a small carton of milk on him. He got to attend the rest of his classes that day wet. No one at the school did anything about it, and he asked us not to report it as he did not want to get on the boys' wrong side.

Obviously, something was wrong in the parenting department that is no reflection on either Marshall or McLean. I had plenty of access to drugs and alcohol as a teenager and not once did I touch it because my parents raised me to be able to resist peer pressure. I can only hope I am doing the same for my daughter.
