Totally disagree. I've been offended by posters alluding that Bannker students self-segregate but decided not to say a peep. I have no affiliation with the school (my kid is in 1st grade and I'm interested. I'm also white). Okay, I'm overstating this and bound to offend someone but I have noticed on occasion in the Banneker threads (as well as the many threads about Hardy) that there are a few white posters who seem offended that administrators at majority black schools aren't begging them to come. Rather than taking the time to check out the school and see if it will work for their kids, they dismiss the school out of hand because of the possibility that they might have to extend themselves to navigate unfamiliar waters (being numerically in a racial minority when you're not used to it).

Yes, maybe it would be uncomfortable for your kids but it's something that AA students at majority white schools routinely have to face. As the infuriated poster has noted, just because it's unfamiliar for white students (who are used to being in the majority) that doesn't mean that Banneker students, teachers, and administrators want to self-segregate.

Not too much, most whites here are educated, liberal, and wary of racism, and at the very least value a little token diversity in their school.
