My in-laws have had a beagle in their home since my husband was a little boy. He named the first one Snoopy. When Snoopy got old and died, they eventually got another, and named him... Snoopy II, and continued the trend. When Snoopy III met an unfortunate and devastating end at the hands of a car, they decided to adopt two beagles at the same time, and named them Snoopy IV and Snoopy V.

They also have two cats that happen to have the same coloring as our two cats (strays). They call them both by the same names as our cats, with a "little" in front. Some people are just stuck on names, I guess. I think it's cute.

The most unusual name I know is from a woman my mother's age, so somewhere in 70's. Her name is apparently a Dutch surname that has been part of her family tradition since the family came to Manhattan many generations ago. I do not know how it is spelled, but it is pronounced "Hooker". I only met Hooker once, as a child, and was very glad that I could call her "Mrs. Smith" as I do not think I could have called her "Hooker" with a straight face.

I also have 2 ancestors whose given name was Badgood. I think I would rather be Badgood than Hooker.

Oh yeah, I know several girls/ women named Hayes. Just off the top of my head I can think of two grown women who live in NWDC, a girl from Atlanta, a girl I went to summer camp with, a a girl I knew in college.

Oh yeah, and Noble. I know at least one personally, from a big family here in Washington. Have heard of others. I think it is a great name.

Many of the names listed here are actually not uncommon. For instance:

I know tons of people named Campbell, males and females, and one is nicknamed "Soup." He is a friend of my husbands and used to live in Baltimore. Seriously, this is not at all out of the ordinary.

Know a girl named Cherry, from Charleston, SC. Really pretty, modeled. It was her given name, not a nickname. Have heard of others.

Knew several Ardens. Mostly older folks who were friends of my parents or grandparents. Men and women.

Magnus - very common especially in literature. Mostly Scandinavian ancestry.

Know at least two Colbys. Kobie, Koby, and Kobe are not unusual. Have known a few.

I could go on but can't remember all the ones listed above that I would not call unusual.
