Us Elon alums love it too....I graduated many years ago and still support it. Great school, amazing study abroad programs and lifelong friendships. I hope your DD loves it as much as we did.

This is so DCUM. Ignorant pompous people who bash anything SN. These are the same bullies who branded non-traditional learners “retards” when they were in HS. Elon was designed with a mission to serve non traditional learners, so the hate from ignorant DCUM’ers will never die. Elon continues to serve the population of extremely bright kids with learning differences (2e, something the haters don’t like to acknowledge) but over the last 20 years or so the university has become a magnate also for all kids who want small classes, professors who know their name, and a warm, nurturing social and academic environment. That’s why Elon now has such high admission standards (average GPA 3.9 average ACT 27). My kid is 2e and the schools around here that serve these non traditional learners have pipelines to colleges like Elon, so my DC will get in with much lower stats. Elon continues to be an excellent choice for bright kids with challenges like dyslexia, ADHD, etc. So please stop throwing around SN like it’s a slur. You sound like an idiot.

All the Elon supporters will no doubt disagree, but as someone with no skin in this game (my child is interested in other colleges), there is no comparison between Lehigh and Bucknell on the one hand, and Elon on the other. I say this based on reputation and the types of students who go to these schools from my kids’ high school. I am sure that Elon is great for the right student but if my kid was making this decision I would strongly suggest Lehigh or Bucknell.

Elon reminds me of Northeastern, both have done a terrific job improving their images and rankings but I am not sure that the underlying colleges are so different than back in my day. I do think it is important to recognize that any college is what you make of it and kids can have a great experience anywhere.

Elon had a huge increase in applications this year - 15,208 up from 10,500 last year.

Hard to tell how much is due to moving to the Common App this year.

My daughter was accepted at Elon and really liked it and would have gone there, but I could not get past the price tag. She is going to an out-of-state public for much less. Did anyone's kids going to Elon get merit?

My DC was admitted there and is waiting to hear from some reaches. I’ve been so impressed by the Elon administration and parent community. Much more personal interactions and help provided than at the top 50 schools on kid’s list. It’s changed my thinking about how to choose a school.

I see the last post was a while ago but let me chime in here. My son was this year accepted into a number of safety schools as well PITT, Penn State, UDEl, JMU , Rutgers and now Elon. He's going to ELON. Academics appear strong, great experiential learning and supportive faculty, good school spirit and study abroad with ~ 7k undergrad. He is thrilled and I could not be happier. Fin 2020 school is certainly respected by many guiidance counselors and has risen up in the review ranks. College is what you put into it and yes he could be successful anywhere but ELON just fit for him and for me. For all you miserable peeps with your miserable comments you all must have miserable lives as well.

I would say your the sorry ones and it landed on your kids. You get out of your kids what you put into them.
