Obviously the answers will be subjective. This thread is asking people what their idea of the most beautiful college campus is. Are you actually suggesting there should be one right answer and all the rest are wrong? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Of course cold weather doesn't make everyone sad, but it absolutely can have an effect on mood. Long hours indoors, lack of sunshine, overcast days -- for some people this does wear them down and even cause depression. My DC is one of those people and so weather is absolutely something we are taking into account.

Not true for everyone, of course, but college is a time when many young people deal with depression for the first time so it is something to keep in mind if you think your DC might be vulnerable.

At the end of the fall semester at Colby you can look forward to days with less than nine hours of sunlight where the sun sets at about 4PM. the temps go below freezing around this time of year and get above freezing in early April. All in all, a great place to spend a summer semester. But sunshine, long days and warm temperatures aren't of everyone - especially those who don't want to be surrounded by happy people.

Cold weather isn't for everyone, but it doesn't make everyone sad (seriously?) either. Also Maine isn't Minnesota or North Dakota. Young people, most of them anyway, are hardy. They have plenty of time to be snow birds when they are old and retired.

Way to generalize an entire state and region (which happens to have a more diverse collection of climates than most places in the world). The Sierra Nevadas and the Cascades get plenty of winter weather (and more average snow fall than parts of New England).

If every "lovely" campus were the MOST beautiful campus, the list would be pretty long.
