I think these threads are just mean and hurtful.

These are kids. People take a lot of thought when naming their kid.

You have no idea what is behind it--cultural, named after somebody, etc.

I really would like these type of threads to just vanish.

Any name that "screams" a particular century- Linda, Susan, Barbara, etc. in the 1950s and 60s, Jennifer, Jason, Michelle, etc. in the 70s and 80s, Jessica, Jacob, Ashley, Taylor in the 90s, and Aidan, Madison, Sophia, Isabella, Liam, etc. in the 2000s. Girls names are much more susceptible to this, I have noticed.

I had a boss named Ricky. That poor man had to use his proper-nickname on all his work documents. That was awful. Jack, can be Jack, who cares.


Hey Dumb Fuck, Jack is a common nickname for John (just like John (Jack) Kennedy).

Our son's name is John--named after several relatives on both sides. Jack is his nickname given the fact there are so many John's.

What I read is a whole lot of ignorance on this thread.
