If you don't have a child at the school, why have you spent 15 pages reading about a topic that doesn't effect you? Why waste your time? It is hard to really understand what is going on if you aren't part of this community.

I have tried getting details from the office and board members at various occasions and was either brushed off or received very little information. I got the feeling no one wanted to talk about it.

I give up trying to get details. No one is freely saying anything unasked. No one is freely saying anything when asked. So the posts continue.

That's Ms. "Nancy". Full time employee, but also the teacher for the Swan room. She shares teaching time with the other Ms. "Nancy".

Is the girl currently working in the office only there part-time? She sits at Betsy's desk sometimes.

Throwing around some numbers and assumptions…

If way off, sorry…just trying to understand. Please don’t slam me or get nasty.

1. Betsy’s position will not be filled

2. Let’s say she was making 55k with 3% increase = $56,650

3. That’s $4720 a month the school nets from after tax tuition parents pay that is not being paid out.

4. Current directors/staff will need to work some overtime to make up. Say 5 hours each a week times 3 people. Assuming salary is also 55k works out to $27/hour = $405/week (15*27) or $1620/month (405*4).

5. School nets about $3000 a month ($4720-$1620 = $3100)

6. By end of April (8 months) the school will have made $24k and by end of June school will have made $30k, so we either should not be hit up for $30k in additional funds at a fundraiser or should not expect to see an increase in tuition in September, by which point to school should have netted $36k.

7. Hoping teachers will not be asked to contribute any of their salary to fundraising.

Not sure if the school ever considered this, but another way to keep tuition rates down may be to see if more parents are willing and able to contribute time. Sort of like a co-op. Ok, put down your fists of anger, not suggesting turning school into a co-op, but with a large parental board of directors already volunteering time and 2 full time office/directors and one part-time, is there still need for a president now that the school is settled and operational? Is there something that the president is doing that the directors, board members, or parent volunteers couldn’t do? Just throwing some ideas out. Not suggesting anyone is good, bad, or ugly, in the right or wrong. Understand this would require some overhaul to the current set up. Maybe the directors are in charge of hiring/firing/reviews of teachers and directing parent volunteers and board yearly does review of directors. Obviously I’m concerned with my child’s well being and education first, but also concerned about my wallet. That would save an additional salary that could help keep tuition increases down.

Did you ask them specifically for the minutes? I've worked for nonprofits for a really long time, and never did I routinely send out board minutes to clients. Your a client of this nonprofit.

Did anyone actually attend the last board meeting? Can anyone provide a run-down of what was discussed? I obviously wouldn't need to ask about it here if the minutes or highlights were provided to all families, as would be the case in any reasonable organization with a board.

Waiting for the next (2010) Form 990 from GuideStar. In the 2009 Form, it stated that the CEO received around $55K for 25 hours of work per week. Tuition for a couple kids would be around $35K per year. Maybe retirement account contributions in the mix? Not a bad compensation package for 25 hours of work per week.

Second that motion! Even our HOA works that way.

Not to mention, there should be total transparency with the board. Positions should be filled publicly, with election if more than one person is interested in holding the position. Board meetings should be open to all parents. Minutes should be available. It should be clear what the responsibilities and duration of each board position are.

Is the CEO/President breaking any non-profit laws for holding both positions?

I never met the man - we had an issue and although he had a "say" in the outcome, he never once contacted me despite repeated requests.

Wow! A few years ago my DD attended RSCC for six months before I decided to SAH after the birth of my second child. I just wanted to wish Betsy well. She was so wonderful to us and we loved her. She was one of the big reasons I chose the school. It's too bad this has happened and I can only imagine the anxiety this sort of infighting would cause me if I still had kids at the school. The message board is fading away as I guess it should but if you go back a reread all of the posts it is very sad to understand all that has taken place. There are some very legitimant claims about RSCC...why was Betsy singled out? Is it right that the CEO be also president of the board? Should not all policies be for everyone? I wish the children and the teachers all the luck in the world.....I know it would be Betsy's wish as well. She is a lovely caring young woman that probably has been changed for life The school will never be the same for lots of reasons. My child will "graduate" this spring and I will be happy to move on.

I know the president of the board/CEO must be reading this thread. Certainly, he must realize that when he and his family are allowed to socialize with families, but another director is not, it is the epitome of hypocrisy. Certainly, he is aware that many RSCC families are concerned that under his leadership the school is losing it's warm, family and community oriented atmosphere. If he is waiting for these concerns to be swept under the rug, he will be waiting a long time. I will no longer be recommending RSCC, though my child had a wonderful experience in the days prior to the current president/CEO.
