Because most of the parents whose kids got rejected think their kids are much better than the ones they see as second tier ones that got in?
The other way around. Parents who were accepted (and who are able to be a bit objective about their DCs scores & accomplishments) are not putting them at the top of the class for TJ.

You are past acceptance due date. Even you DD wants to go now, she can not. I believe due date is April 12.
Actually, in the past you haven't had to commit until Registration Night, which this year is on April 24th.
This year the intent to attend had to be filed by 5pm Friday 4/12. They drilled that into our heads during Preview Night last week.

Anonymous wrote:Actually, I am not sure what PP is talking about. My DD is at a MS in Vienna and we asked for an application, filled it out, gave it back to the school with our check, the TJ coordinator at the school (or maybe Dean of Students) signed the part that said the student was in good standing, and she was given a testing id.
Maybe you are talking about a situation when a parent requests an application right from TJ? No MS in Fairfax County that I know of makes a parent turn in anything but a check and a filled in application back to the school.

It's not just this thread. Personally, my DC got in to TJ this year and we are probably turning it down in favor of the IB program at Marshall, almost entirely due to the fact that my DC doesn't want to go to a school where the supposedly smartest kids in the county/country need remedial English lessons. DC has many friends who should have been shoo-ins get rejection letters. Here's the hard facts - Fairfax[i] County is only 17% Asian. TJ is now 57% Asian. 224 African American students applied and they took only 6, rejecting two AA students at my DC's GT Center School who are straight-A award winning students. So please don't bash the parents on this thread. Facts are the facts, and lots of folks in the media and local government are focusing on this now.
as in, George Marshall HS on Rt 7 in Falls Church? you're out of your mind.
I am leaning towards doing the same thing for my DS.
Right. And my DD plans to turn down TJ so she can go to Lee.![]()
Also, an eighth grader who wants to be a minister may change his mind twenty times before he even graduates from high school. Over 70% of college freshmen change their majors. And, even if he never changes his mind, it's a benefit to any profession to have a great background in math and science!
1. Essays [25%] - Persuasive writing
2. SIS [20%] - Rated on persuasive writing or true accomplishments that only come with true passion? She was rated deficient in this area
...applicants will have one hour to write two essays in response to two different essay questions. One essay question focuses on real-world problem solving, often with an ethical component. The other essay question focuses on self-assessment by the applicant.
