The Jewish people I know are some of the kindest people I know with a strong sense of moral clarity. And yet they seem to reflexively protect Israel. When you see stories like this (and many others), it is hard to understand how they are managing the cognitive dissonance. Israel seems like it’s governed by a bunch of thugs.

Agree. American Jews have been at the forefront of civil rights and fighting for the underdog and generally against evil. I feel like this reflexive embrace of Israel makes them lose the moral high ground they have always and justly occupied.

Israel is very important to many of us, just like fighting for the underdog in America is. I don't suppose anyone not Jewish will understand that. I look at the long arc of history and know in my bones that there is one place in the world whose sole purpose is to protect *me.* America? Hardly. It wasn't that long ago that the St. Louis was turned away in the water and Jews were sent to their deaths. And now? Yeah, right, I trust Trump and his jackboot thugs to keep me safe. And with Democrats like Maureen Galindo who want to put "Zionists" in camps, the left is barely better.

Warts and all, Israel was created to enable Jews to survive and flourish and get us back to our roots that reach back thousands of years, despite the haters claiming that tie doesn't exist. (There has been much ancient Hebrew found during archeological digs.) Don't forget that many of us have relatives in Israel. I do. I've been there. I know these people. They, like most of us, want Netanyahu out and peace for everyone. No one enjoys having their lives disrupted the way they have been.

We are waiting for principled leadership in Israel much as most of us are waiting for principled leadership of the U.S. But we will not abandon our ancestral homeland and its people to score political points--not happening.

That's fine and very understandable. However, so far the US has spent about $300 Billion supporting Israel. And the Israel of today is not the Israel of yore. Netanyahu and his government of ultra-orthodox thugs just killed 85,000 mostly innocent people in Gaza, invaded Lebanon and sent another 1 million people fleeing for their lives, sent 700,000 religious zealots in to the West Bank to take more land and terrorize people, and launched a major with the Iran, which has caused chaos and the US to expend an enormous percentage of its most advanced munitions. We literally just used half of all our THAAD interceptors - what we use to defend against a nuclear attack - to protect Israel while not being able to protect our own bases in the Gulf.

You have to ask, why is the US spending such an enormous amount of money and resources to fight for a tiny but extremely belligerent country of no strategic relevance to the US? It's not 1948 anymore. There is no justification for this in 2026. And that's not a left or right issue. Pretty much everyone under 50 thinks the massive amount of money and military resources we spend on Israel is nuts.

PP: Israel actually is of very important strategic relevance to us. That you don't understand that undercuts other claims you made, many of which are false or exaggerated.

Can you explain its strategic relevance? Other than in protecting itself?

Sure, assuming these questions are being asked in good faith. It's a regional bulwark against terror. It has insane military and intelligence capabilities that have enabled us to thwart threats. Its Mossad is unparalleled. I'm very, very thankful we have it.

Yeah. I think this is all nonsense. Israel was not even able to stop a bunch of people flying in with kites. I don’t think it has thwarted any threats to the US and I think the terror threats to the US from the region have been wildly overblown. What is the use of our bases there if Israel is so useful? I think Israel’s entire reputation as an ally is propaganda.

DP. People who aren’t involved in intelligence and who consume their own sources of propaganda would naturally say this. Israel’s intelligence is second to none, except perhaps our own. They are a strategic partner against Islamic extremism.

Yes, they dropped the ball on 10/7. Not going to pretend otherwise. But there are so many terrorist attacks that have been thwarted by the Israeli/US partnership about which you know nothing. We are incredibly fortunate to have a strategic partner in that location. Enough said.

+100
People like the PP seem unwilling or unable to admit just how valuable Israel is to us. They are a hugely advanced source of intelligence in the Middle East - cutting edge, in fact. Apparently the PP is ignorant of that fact and so many others.

Dp. Please explain. Personally I’ve come to believe that is significantly overstated. And for the billions we’ve spent, we should be getting a lot. Are we?

This reads like indoctrination and not like independent, fact based views.

DP. Oh please. Funny that you never speak up about “indoctrination” when our resident lunatic is ranting about “demons, ghouls” etc. and posting actual pro-Iranian propaganda.

The above isn’t “indoctrination.” It’s a well-articulated view of how many people (to include me) feel about Israel. It’s also very nuanced, if you’d bother to actually read it.

How “empathetic” are you if you are ok with the genocide and destruction of the Palestinian people? Are you actually as liberal and moral as you thought you were?

Oh, honey. I've marched and donated and held calls to action and put my body on the line in more ways than one to garner support for progressives and for vulnerable people. That was my life. So while I have empathy for the truly innocent of Gaza, I think our definition of truly innocent will differ. I know what evil looks like, and it's those in Gaza who came out in the streets to cheer broken Israeli bodies being paraded around. And who held innocent hostages in their apartments. And who praised their sons who killed as many Jews as possible. And in America and the rest of the West....well, thanks to the reaction of so-called progressives after October 7, I now know that no one is empathetic toward me and my people. They wanted Israelis to lay down their weapons as the hostages were still being tortured underground.

Do you empathize with the still-displaced and emotionally and physically scarred Israelis and the traumatized populace there? Because there's plenty of suffering there to go around.

Unbelievable. Your screed is just another in a long line of empty arguments that will never convince anyone paying attention that history and accountability started on 10/7/2023.

Oct 6 was already the deadliest year for Palestinian *children* in the *West Bank* where these monsters don't have Oct 7 or Hamas to blame for their savagery. I suspect Oct 5, 4, 3, 2022, 2021, 2014 (where these demons gathered to watch Gaza get bombed like it was a sporting event), 1999, 1947... was also very violent for Palestinians. Apparently, none of that can be counted as being the reason Oct 7 happened. I've said this before and I'll say it again: The "liberal" Zionists are far more psychotic than even the conservative ones, because they actually think they don't look insane claiming to believe in human rights or free speech, but then tell themselves it's OK to destroy both, solely on behalf of Isr. They have absolutely no issue w/ students protesting any other country on earth incl America, but don't you dare protest wittle Isr. They tell you it's the "way" they protest. OK, fine...I want to use my 1A to boycott products. No, no, no. We are going to violate your 1A in most of this country solely for Isr. Totally fine if you want to boycott anything else, but you will get fired/not hired if you don't sign this loyalty pledge to that one rape colony.

I've posted the countless videos of everything they admit to having done from its very inception. These losers can't respond w/ anything but "Oct 7." You show them Terrorism was brought to Palestine *by them* they bleat "Oct 7." The Queen herself would not step foot in israel because even she knew their history, but "Oct 7." She viewed every israeli as a terrorist or the son of one. There was no Hamas. Why would there need to be resistance by Palestinians BEFORE Zionists infested the land? You tell them the first synagogue bombed was in Iraq and it was by them to strike fear into the Iraqi Jews who lived well, were in govt and part of the society, they ignore it and bleat "Oct 7." They kidnapped Yemeni Jewish children to give Ashkenazis, Palestinians didn't do that, but... Oct 7.

No one gives a sh*t about Oct 7 or that you still push lies about who actually killed most of them and who is more likely raping w/ impunity, because most learned about every damn day BEFORE Oct 7, and that's why you look like monsters to most of the world, because a deranged person tries to justify everything that has been done post Oct 7 or minimize the savagery, bigotry and racism of Zionism, by pretending every single day of hell for Palestinians prior to that day, never happened and isn't the reason ONE f***ing day in Oct did happen.

Oh, you crawled out of your cave. Slow news day in Tehran or Moscow or wherever you push your propaganda from?

DP- if that's the best you can come up with in response, I guess the pp must be hitting a nerve...

Nope. It’s just the fantastical style that’s so telling. This creature can’t merely insist that I and other Zionists are wrong, they have to go over the cliff by implying that nobody cares about October 7 and anyhow it wasn’t actually Hamas who killed most of the 1,200 dead on October 7. I mean, it’s laughable and sad. This poster just cannot get out of their own way.

A moron thinks Hamas killed 1200. An absolute moron. And BTW, why is it we can't mention that hundreds were soldiers but you get to justify demonizing every Palestinian? Oh, right, you ppl are the only ones who get to be treated like giant babies "kidnapped from tanks."

You can't debate me, that's why you do this every single time. You think your responses to me look good to anyone who isn't as delusional as you? You don't deserve even a modicum of respect. You need to get this once and for all: No personal attacks on me mean anything coming for the likes of you. You defend a rape colony where they gather to watch their savagery on a big screen, like its a Sunday tailgate. Even the "Antisemitism Czars" are psychopaths. The very reason you don't actually challenge mean on any link or verified HISTORY, is because how in the hell can you? There is not a single thing you CAN defend or challenge, that's why you pathetically cling to personal attacks. You freaks were obsessing over dog rape as if there isn't already proof of systemic rape by IsraeL from its very inception. You ignored the countless times it was pointed out that Jews claimed Nazis used dogs and that it was also done in Chile. I even linked to the woman known for having trained the dogs. That's how far we have to go when it comes to any claim by Palestinians. The woman who wrote that garbage report about Hamas is a proven liar and the report involved rehashed BS, but you expect ppl w/ above a one digit IQ to just go along w/ it because Zionists don't ever have to back up their BS claims, right? Point to an Arabic calendar and claim "Khamas." Claim you didn't slaughter medical workers and bury their ambulances despite Palestinians claiming you did and only when the Zionists act w/ such impunity that they get sloppy and bury the phone proving what they've done comes to surface, is when Palestinians are finally believed. Lie about death counts and won't tell anyone why you won't let the world in (we all know why). Claim every journalist or doctor or professor you've slaughtered was "Khamas."

I'm smarter than you'll ever be on this because the moment you mention Hamas or Oct 7, that's the moment most don't gives a sh*t what you think because we all know what led to both. You don't get to decide that everything that led to an Oct 7 doesn't count, but that everything post that day is perfectly reasonable.

I especially love this new thing where now, it's not "just Bibi" but now it's "just Ben Gvir." It's such a beautiful thing watching the world find out what Palestinians have know and been dealing with for 80 years and in only two years, they loathe you for having done far less to the world than you have to Palestinians. You don't look good to anyone who isn't a racist, a bigot, getting paid/blackmailed to push propaganda on Isr's behalf or thinks you need to convert or die.

Like a tidal wave of truth to wash away decades of Zionist propaganda and lies.

Claim you didn't slaughter medical workers and bury their ambulances despite Palestinians claiming you did and only when the Zionists act w/ such impunity that they get sloppy and bury the phone proving what they've done comes to surface, is when Palestinians are finally believed.

Please explain. I haven’t heard or seen any evidence of this. We’ve spent billions on Israel. What has it given us but moral failings?

Thank you for answering. I suspect that there is a mythos and sense of belonging around Israel to Jewish people that isn’t really understood by others. I can accept that. The only thing I would say to you is the following - when you continue to stand by Israel as their crimes become more and more prominent, it risks changing you in ways that may not want. Your empathy, your humanity is slowly being poisoned. I hope you learn to criticize Israel and support American policies to hold Israel accountable (no more or less than any other country) as the situation warrants. I hope your humanity wins out in the end.

Can I say something as a Middle Eastern Christian whose community is slowly dwindling after millennia of our own culture and heritage?

I have ZERO sympathy for the argument that Israel is the only Jewish homeland. None.

If you came to me and told me you could give my people a homeland, all it takes is killing and displacing a million Muslims who have been persecuting and killing my people anyway--- my answer is NO. The moral answer is always NO. Keeping my values clean and my hands clean is always more important than keeping my culture from disappearing, and it very much is disappearing as people emigrate and slowly assimilate into other countries.

So I don't accept that answer. I don't accept that its your "homeland." Genocide is always wrong. It's so simple.

DP. I really respect this answer. I do appreciate that Israel feels like a special place to many Jews, but I also think part of that feeling has resulted from ugly manipulations and misleading facts which sweep away the great immortality of Israel’s actions towards others. Also, let’s be f’in real. Jews are flourishing in plenty of other places, including in the US. They are just as safe, if not far more safe than most people in the US between crime, guns, effects of poverty etc.

I’ll take that long-winded reply as a no.

You can rely on anecdotes about Palestinians but the wholesale dehumanization of the Palestinians no longer moves the needle.

The Israeli state itself is going all-in on apartheid. It has designated the death penalty for only Palestinians.

DP

It’s a dead-set litmus test now - tens of millions will only vote for and/or financially support candidates who pledge to focus their time in office on efforts to disintegrate all aspects of Israel’s corruption of our government. Any candidate who won’t make that pledge can find another job.

80,000 Palestinians are dead.
1 MILLION Lebanese, Muslim and Christian, are displaced.

Those numbers absolutely dwarf what happened on October 7, as horrible as that was.

Stop using the lives lost on October 7 as an excuse. That is a great dishonor to the people who did die.

Sorry, when you support the annihilation of the Palestinian people and then turn around and complain about "hate and resentment," in the progressive movement, you're giving Progressives credibility.
