Okay? But I went down many side streets that are effectively single lane. Buses and commuters and kids walking on streets (because unshoveled sidewalks) Monday will be a catastrophe.

Those bulldozers only work with dump trucks hauling away snow, and there is a pretty limited capacity when doing that.

The kids seem to be getting to all the open businesses and libraries just fine. I agree it’s not ideal, I’m pretty ticked off at some of my neighbors who haven’t even bothered to try to clear a path, but it’s winter and this concrete ice snow isn’t going anywhere for weeks.

Maybe you should practice some humility and pray for that outcome rather than stating it so arrogantly.

I don’t know. Multiple principals and teachers emailing with information indicating Monday is open….seems like praying is a bit much. I’m going to go with current reality.

I can see 2 hour delay but closure seems like some of you are the ones praying.

I don’t get it. Keep your kids home or call out “sick” and wait for the doomsday outcome. Let everyone else live.

You mean how people have been getting around the latter half of this week? It’s definitely not perfect.

I think some of you haven’t left your house yet.

A catastrophe?

It will be a a bit of a struggle Monday AM and then life will go on.

+1. And have they even cleared street parking for drop off? I haven't driven the whole county of course but in my limited driving this week I don't see parking lanes cleared anywhere...

Ok I’ll rely on the information from my principal and several teachers.

A message about parking?

I'm all about transparency in solving a problem. APS should show which properties or other metrics push the decision and where there are issues. This would have allowed community effort to address said concerns and get over the hurdle but it's easier just to not share the information and not get something done. If you're transparent about the problems or challenges, you can both get community support (such as clearing sidewalks at school XYZ ) and pressure is exerted to solve said challenges (say they didn't have enough bus heaters or something so that that a buses could get started. Well maybe they need more funding for that and the community could lobby the board for more funding for the future) almost all problems are solvable. So let's be transparent about the issue, don't throw anybody under the bus, and get them done so it doesn't happen again.

Pressure APS to BE TRANSPARENT with metrics.

They’re driving kids to sports meets, which are on as scheduled. Apparently we can do things like sports, just not things like educating.

It has to be logistically easier to coordinate sports than open the school district. I'm not sure why Arlington can't do better with getting the schools open, but I don't agree everything else should be closed until they do.
