yes, have heard that some consular officers seriously wonder how the refund will happen, if at all.

I suggest people go to the FIFA website and check out the last chance ticket sale that opened up yesterday.

Almost every game is sold out. On the east coast there is a single game with tickets available in both Atlanta and Miami. There are only 8 games across every country that have minimal tickets remaining.

It was wishful thinking that a boycott would influence attendance.

Can we also boycott Qatar’s participation in the World Cup?

Laura Loomer’s ‘Worse Than 9/11’ Terror Claim on X Sparks Online Reaction Amid Rising Iran Tensions; Claim Remains Unverified

Well if it happens, blame Trump. He woke the tiger.

Eh, the Trump administration "hinting" constantly about terrorist attacks seems suspicious to me. Kind of like his supposed assassination attempt that he doesn't have any scars from.

No way I would travel to the US to see the World Cup unless I was a billionaire.

Between potentially being detained or harassed, and the possibility of a "terrorist attack" that Loomer keeps on warning about, I would be concerned certain elements of the US government wouldn't care if a stadium full of internationals gets hit.

I bought “Pitch Side Lounge” hospitality packages for three different matches. I’m hosting seven co-workers at each match. I can’t wait.

Sounds like a lot of y'all couldn't manage to purchase to tickets. Don't worry, the rich German embassy usually puts up a few big screens so DC can watch real futbol.

These people are not intelligent if they believe they’ll be snatched at a World Cup match. The areas around those matches will be the safest places for immigrants to be. There is no way Trump would allow ICE to do sweeps there. The World Cup is one of Trump’s Crown Jewels. He’d never allow a worldwide spectacle to be disrupted. Besides, like a Super Bowl, corporations and businesses people are buying up all of the tickets. Stadiums will be sold out.

As a foreigner, I don't believe people will avoid the World Cup because they fear being snatched by ICE, they just won't want to go to the US because of everything that has happened/is happening: trade war launched against the whole world, threats to take the territory of a NATO ally, insults to the soldiers who shed blood for the US, now the US is destroying the world economy. People are just done with the US.

"Softer Booking Trends Prompt Strategy Shift

Early booking trends also show that demand is coming in lower than expected. In some markets, hotels have reported picking up only a small portion of previously reserved FIFA room blocks, with estimates as low as 15% occupancy for those allocations. As a result, many operators are shifting away from rigid event-based pricing strategies and reopening inventory to general travelers."

I think the reputation of YS on the world stage is enough to impact those coming to see games. I'm a huge soccer fan as both my teens play and we're all excited about it but even if I were a foreigner it would stop me from visiting. I may go to yo Canada or Mexico but I'd be too upset to visit US. Some of it is also the inconvenience of visiting - the administration has made such enemies of everyone else in the world - made sure they know that our govt doesn't respect or want them in the US that I'd be offended as a foreigner.

The other aspect is ICE but that's more local concern than impacting international visitors I think.

All in all, with ticket prices so high as well, I think there will be those who pay to watch live but I don't think it'll be on the scale of past world cups with all the passion and celebration. This is not soccer country - it was held here as a money grab.
