It's very, very weak. Comey has a good chance of getting out of it.

MAGA person here. I tend to agree. That said, it may be that were rushing to indict before the statute of limitations runs out and will beef up the case later.

People are correct that Comey's actions work in favor of the Republicans. He may be one of the most moronic public figures of our time. He loudly speaks out against Trunp while repeatedly doing things that aid him. Even the leak in the indictment reads pro-Trump. For Pete's sake Comey, learn to keep your mouth shut.

Comey is entitled to a trial within 30 days of his arraignment and there is no beefing up of the case which has been exhaustively investigated for years. It shouldn’t have been brought as anyone but the beauty pageant loser insurance attorney could very well see.

It’s actually 70 days after indictment. The 39 days is the time they must indict or file an information after arrest. Speedy Trial Act of 1974.

Whether it goes to trial is a function of how much Comey wants to humiliate Trump, Bondi, Halligan and MAGA generally. He could probably get this dismissed with prejudice on numerous grounds very quickly. But he might want to see his “enemies “ choke on their own hubris.
This is what I’m hoping for.

I want to see her and Trump get humiliated. And the best part is, all of the Russian interference stuff will be brought up again. I don't think this is going to end up the way Trump thought it would.

I don't think there are too many Liberals who are upset that Comey has to ensure this. He is, afterall, a republican who took overt action to tilt the election to Trump in 2016.

Comey should have gone to prison years ago.

For what exactly? People don’t get sent to jail just because someone feels like it.

Tell that to Trump

+1 Martha Stewart, Hillary Clinton and Diddy are somewhere laughing.

Two things can be true: political prosecutions can be wrong and karma can still be a you know what.

NYT said no one is prosecuted for perjury as a standalone offense. Well no one is prosecuted for the Mann act either but Diddy is sitting in jail. Martha Stewart was a billionaire and went to prison over 45k and lost her entire business empire b/c Comey was on the come up. Comey is terrible and his daughter is too. Apple doesn’t fall far.

I don't like Comey but I dislike Trump's retribution campaign even more.

Anonymous wrote:What is the Ace USA gonna do when Comey says no to a Speedy Trial Act waiver?

This offensive only from a DOGE perspective.

From a legal perspective it will be like watching the Keystone Kops stepping on their own dicks. In the ever so common a Trump patented way.

I have been wondering what his strategy will be and I’m guessing this may be it. I originally thought he may go for the vindictive prosecution dismissal, which he should easily win since Trump has said outright that this is retribution, but MAGAs on SCOTUS could easily Calvinball that. Demanding a trial next month would throw Lindsay for a loop and then he’d have an iron clad acquittal. His “let’s have a trial” comment makes me think thats what he’ll do.

I don't know what the deal is with Sarkozy, but I don't recall him being that good a guy.

I am not cheering on this prosecution, it is baseless and obviously political.

French person here. Sarkozy definitely tried to get illegal funding from various sources at different times, and he is guilty as heck.

He tried to cover-up his attempt to get an illegal campaign contribution from a wealthy French heiress, by bribing a judge with a retirement package. He tried to get election campaign money from the Libyan dictator Gaddafi, possibly in exchange for diplomatic favors. And he diverted funds intended for his (failed) election campaign and instead paid for wild parties and wining and dining various notable people, which is not allowed. He was also accused of spying on his own judicial branch to get wind of who knew what, in order to try to escape legal consequences.

His sentence of 5 years in prison is historic, and deserved. Prosecutors had asked for 7 years in prison. It's the heaviest sentence ever handed down to a former leader, Louis XVI and Pétain excepted...

I note here that Marine Le Pen, leader of the far-right and Presidential hopeful, was banned from the next Presidential election for trying to get her European Parliament assistants fake jobs (with real pay) - a sentence she has appealed. But it's an important moment in France to strike hard at corrupt politicians. The EU has strict campaign funding laws, unlike the USA. We need to be careful who we elevate to lead our countries.
