Oh- so she’s a junior.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Our son is a first year at UVA and the adjustment has been beyond all of our greatest hopes. He is so happy! I credit that to the school, the culture, the place and the students there. There is an undeniable spirit - smart kids who want to have fun too - there that seems to captivate kids. The fact that he is having this experience at half the cost is a bonus. Home now yet eager to get back.

What a game!

My daughter is there and said it was amazing. To all the posters griping about rankings, it doesn't matter. The kids I know at UVA, including my own, are thriving academically, socially, and heck now they even have a fun football team to cheer for. They're gonna be just fine. Go complain on another thread....no one cares.

+1 seriously!

+1 Crazy town posters!

You sound very normal. Haku for your daughter! Many DCUM posters are weirdly obsessed with college rankings and wealth.

Happy for your daughter!

It matters because it shows the quality of the professors, cohort, and research being done. UVA was once a great school, now it is an average public school.

What an absurd statement. /\/\

UVA functions as designed a place where VA residents can send their kids to get a decent education at a reasonable price.

How/if it will continue to be able to perform that function depends on its ability to vastly overcharge non VA residents now making up about a third of the overall student population.

Drastically lower that percentage and the value equation for VA residents will change.

With all the political stuff happening I’m not shocked. Everyone knows UVA is a good school. It doesn’t matter.

……and still ZERO Nobel prize winners. That’s embarrassing. UC schools had 4 this year alone!

UVA alumni who have won: Woodrow Wilson, William Faulkner, Snowalter Hench, Clinton Davidson.
UVA facuktywho have won: Fered Murad, Alfred Gilman
UVA Research affiliates who have won: Jeffrey C Hall, Michael Rosbash, Michael W. Yukon

Wilson and Faulkner never graduated from UVA. Neither did Hench or Davidson. They weren’t “produced” by UVA. Rhodes scholars are graduates. Apples to apples.
