What are you talking about? Not all employees are essential and this memo makes it clear that even essential employees for programs that don’t align with the admin can be RIFd. Learn how to read. They can RIF anyone they want and if they go through with this, many ppl will lose their jobs and govt will be crippled

Who is going to be left to process the RIFs?

Russ is going to do it all by himself

His head is so full of helium that he probably thinks he can do it all by himself

They have all of our email addresses from the 5 bullet points

That’s just notification that you’re fired. There is a lot more to a RIF than a notification. Skilled HR specialists are required to handle all that paperwork for benefits, leave payments, etc.

Right. Courts might let the government get away with skipping some steps, but there won't be enough staff around to run a RIF that wouldn't get immediately reversed.

+1 vought does not hold all the cards here.

Has anyone told him that?

Making this threat proves he does not have all the cards. DOGE already tried to fire lots of people. We see what a failure that’s been.

Vought threatening to fire everyone is meaningless and distracts from his real prize which is a CR that keeps paychecks flowing but gives him carte blanche to do as he likes with fewer congressional directives.

Republicans don't seem to care about keeping the government open, that seems to be the issue..

Then shut it down, make it hard & long, and then let the American people see what happens in the absence of government the federal government. White people in exurbs who voted for Trump need to feel it.

+1 shut it down. Either government is the problem and shutting it down won’t matter. Or it’s not the problem and people will remember it the next time they vote.

He seems like someone unwilling to hear truth. Too negative.

HEADS UP from a Redditor for anyone with NFIP policies. Pass it on if it applies to someone you know.

If you have a FEMA flood policy that expires or renews on/after October 1st, be aware that with the potential government shutdown on September 30, 2025, FEMA may be unable to issue or renew NFIP policies.

Flood policies do not automatically renew—they are treated as new policies each year. To avoid delays, you should submit payment by 9/29 (online or by phone—mail will not count).

This comes during peak hurricane season, which could leave many homeowners at risk.

The private flood insurance market is not affected by an NFIP lapse.

Republicans have the majority in Congress and the WH. If they need Dems to vote for their bill, they need to work with Dems.

I find the good test is "how would I feel if the parties were reversed?" And the PP needs to think about that. R's have the majority and if they want a deal, then reach across the aisle and find some common ground. Ditch the rhetoric. Act like leaders for a change.

Otherwise, Dems have seen their meeting with POTUS cancelled and been told that R's will not work with them. Ok. Then you own it.

They need 60 votes in the senate, per the US Constitution.

At every other turn, when the roles were reversed, the Democrats negotiated with the GOP.

The constitution does not require 60 votes. That’s a Senate rule and they can change the senate rule with a simple majority vote

Right and the GOP doesn't really want to do this. They do know that future Congresses may be Democratic and blowing up the filibuster may come back to bite them, even as soon as 26 (I know, it's a tall order but ....). Just like the reconciliation gimmick. I know it will cause a lot of pain but Dems can in fact say that they gave it the ol' college try and let the Rs own this mess with higher premiums etc. RIFs are entirely a sideshow.

Ridiculous. Shut it down. They can fire people, who will then sue them and get their jobs back. We've been paying federal worker for up to six months to sit at home and now Trump is quietly bringing them back. It's all a sham. So, the Dems should not worry about this dumb @ss threat.

Until his 6 whackjob intellectually challenged cronies on the Supreme Court decide that that he does have the authority to fire all federal employees.

Whether the government is or is not shut down has no impact on whether this will happen. The only response to a blackmailer has to be— go ahead.

PLEASE DONT DO THIS!

Why?

Because the pp doesn't want it to backfire on Trump.

I'm not sure if the OMB memo was written as a bluff or out of stupidity. Its not going to work the way they want it to.
