I read the book but never saw the stage production.

I LOOOOOVED it. I've seen it 3 times. The sets and costumes are gorgeous. The story was told well. The songs amazing.

Not a huge Grande fan but I thought she was really great in it. Love Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dilamond (sp?). And Goldblum as the wizard was fab, too.
But the two that did it for me were Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey.

CE was just mesmerizing. Her voice and acting were just perfection. It had me laughing, crying, rooting that she'd meet a different ending.

JB had me just gobsmacked. He's a gorgeous man on every level and seems to have so much charisma. He seems to just be fun, lively, funny. His press engagements with Jeff G. are so fun. I cannot wait to see more of him.

That was probably my main issue. It also seemed to lack the emotion and magic of the musical.

I read the book but never saw the musical. I absolutely LOVED the movie. I can’t wait to see it again.

I haven’t seen any replies from people who have seen the musical multiple times.

I’ve seen the Musical multiple times and I wrote that it felt a bit bloated and that I feel like a number of the songs that they lengthened and added in dialogue in the middle of lost their drama and momentum, but I still overall enjoyed it. It also bothers me that they didn’t auto tune or re-record to keep everyone on pitch, something that they obviously can’t do on stage.

If the movie version is as spectacular as the theatre version, I'd go see it on a big screen. If not then I'd wait for the Blu-ray.

I would vote 100% for seeing it on the big screen.

I saw this a week ago and I'm still kind of high from it. I've been listening to the music and mentally revisiting the scenes. It's really special.

Just saw it today, and absolutely loved it. Want to see it again. The last 20 min I held my breath. The chemistry between Ariana and Cynthia is intoxicating. Costumes and sets were gorgeous. Watched the special on Peacock and was shocked that so much (like the train!) were real and not CGI. Seriously such an impressive film all around.

OK. This is helpful because I think the people who are wowed by the movie aren't mega fans of live musical.

I have seen it onstage multiple times, and I loved the movie. Seeing their faces close up on the screen deepens the emotion. Both lead actresses give amazing performances. Jonathan Bailey is the first Fiyero I really felt anything for.
Many, many megafans adore the movie.

+1. I wouldn't call myself a megafan of the musical, but I liked it a lot and I've seen it twice, including once with the original cast. I loved the movie.

No but considering how overused it is in music I’d prefer it to off key!

That comment confused me, too. As a theater lover, I was so happy to see that they were actually singing while acting, not just using a studio recorded track.

Personally, I was blown away by the movie. I went back for a second viewing and wouldn't mind watching it again.

Yes, and Jonathan Bailey and the set designer deserve huge kudos as well for that great number!
