Why are people equating receiving a religious card at school to the teacher spewing her own religious beliefs (or lack thereof)?
Maybe the teacher simply wants nothing to do with religion at a public school, personally or professionally. I know of no teacher who feels it’s necessary to talk religion at school. We have too many other things to do and it’s not professional.

I'm livid. It was in our mailboxes. The secretary must have agreed to let a parent do this.

I'm Muslim, not Christian and have no issues reading bible or listening to a Christian sermon if nothing interesting in on radio. However, I wouldn't like anyone leaving religious messages at my home or work, no matter it's my own religion or someone else's. I understand their good intent but boundaries must be respected.

Evangelicals have no boundaries. It’s inherent in their belief system. And it’s pervasive . And it’s poison.

How is it poison? Please elaborate.

I would need a whole book to elaborate...however if you are truly interested you can read Christopher Hitchens book God is Not Great...How Religion Poisons Everything.

But for a taste, I can tell you that christian fundamentalists are a cult. You are either IN their group, or you are a target of their group. They cannot love unconditionally, they judge everyone that is not exactly like them, they are arrogant, self righteous, and I could go on. I have very very close first hand knowledge of the beliefs of these types of groups. Their ideology includes shunning (their own family members, leading to suicide in one person), they are patriarchal, they are misogynsits, they believe in "purity culture" which is incredibly damaging, they believe that jesus is coming back soon and live their lives accordingly, including not caring about the environment or living THIS life fully.....

Again, I could write an entire book. But I won't. Suffice it to say that I have had to educate myself for the past two years about christian fundamentalism and what I have learned is not pretty. I would never again have a relationship with anyone with these extreme religious beliefs because poison is the only word that comes to mind to describe them.

And the worst part....they CANNOT keep their views to themselves. My 15 year old has nightmares multiple times a week because of the lake of fire she was convinced existed and that she was going to be sent to (even a SPECIAL place in hell for her since she was "strong willed), because of someone I once trusted. Disgusting people with disgusting beliefs that they do anything they can to shove down everyone else's throats because of their arrogance and hubris.

As you can tell, my family has been harmed (and what I've described here is nothing compared to other things that have happened to my children and family) and the more I've learned the more horrified I am at this religion in general and fundamentalism specifically. And yes, I understand there are many many christians that are nice and kind and wonderful people. But they could be good without the influence of religion, and their "moderate" religious beliefs give cover to the fundamentalists who want this to be a "christian nation".

Rant over. But maybe someone here will think a little more about why we need to keep people from spreading THEIR beliefs. Leave people alone.

What f***** up red state is this in?! This is highly illegal. Church and state need to be kept separate! I'd be looking for a new job faster than you can say "amen!"

Please stop day drinking. You sound unhinged and your posts are embarrassing.

Honey, I am completely sober! People who think God is real are embarrassing. It's like believing in Santa. Once your age hits the double digits, it's not cute anymore. Have fun crying when Trump loses in November! Go Kamala!! Go Tim!!

God is real, and I’m not a Trump voter. And you still sound unhinged.

Why do you think that?

Really? Then why are kids get their heads blown off at school? Why did my mom die from cancer at age 60? Why do people abuse animals? I'm waiting...

I’m so sorry you lost your mom so young.

Our children's elementary school principal had a cross in her office as well as Bible verses in frames on the wall.

Public school? Totally unprofessional. Every non Christian child could feel unwelcome and judged.

Teachers barely have enough time to use the restroom. I know it only takes 30 second to open, read and discard a card and an envelope, but I wouldn’t want anything or anybody monopolizing my time in this manner. Teachers already have to deal with so much crap!

Us muslims have a group called " tableeghi jamaat", non-violent super religious folks obsessed with converting others or reverting luke warm muslims, very much like Christian missionaries. I seriously dislike their lack of respect for other people's boundaries.

You ABSOLUTELY should keep your beliefs to yourself within your classroom. I hope you are not condemning your religious students, and I hope you are able to treat them with the respect they deserve.

As much as you don’t want a flyer in your mailbox, I don’t want a teacher for my children who is going to judge and condemn them. Your unreasonable reaction to a well-wishing flyer is, frankly, scary.

And I wish you wouldn’t relate this to Harris’s campaign. I am also voting for Harris, and I don’t think you are doing her any favors relating her campaign to hate.

I'm not the OP who received the bible verse card but I am the "sober Democrat PP." Strangely enough, I actually used to be a teacher but haven't been one in over five years. I never expressed my opinions in the classroom. Also, this would never have happened in my school.

Surely you can see why parents would be concerned.

I am also a teacher. This (and worse) has happened at my school. Each time I’ve just looked the other way because I have more important work to do. I also don’t view myself as above others, and I’m not going to insult my students by calling them “embarrassing” for believing in God. I am wise enough to know that I don’t know everything.

If religion must be kept out of schools to appease OP’s anger, then so must overt expressions against it.

I’m all about fairness and balance.

Why do you think that means God doesn't exist?

I feel if there was a God, he/she would not let bad things happen to people and animals. Also, he/she would not condone homophobia, misogyny and racism in their name!

Psst, the people you and I are voting for also believe in God. Do you assume all Democrats are atheists or all religious people are Republican?
