My thoughts exactly.

Because Gerry wasn’t the real deal. Joan is (aside from the work haha). She reminds me of Trista, serious and there for the right reasons. Doesn’t seem like the type to get snowed, like some recent younger bachelorettes. For this reason I’m now glad Leslie wasn’t picked, not sure she has solid enough judgment to weed out the con artists and losers.
I honestly couldn't believe it when they showed the flashback photos with her husband. She was a real plane Jane back in the day, who transformed herself with makeup, hair dye, and work in late middle age. Although I think she took it too far, and her over-emoting with such a tight face is hard you watch, she really did become quite glamorous and stylish. The men seem genuinely impressed with her (goes to show you most men do not give a fig about obvious work, but do like long blond hair and thin elegant bodies). She seems like a nice, grounded woman who truly loved her husband and mourned his loss deeply. I'm pulling for her!
I find that totally fascinating and true. My own dh will say a woman on tv looks great even when to me the woman looks borderline deformed and grotesque from plastic surgery. It's like he cannot tell!
My husband too, not one clue!

And wealthy retirees can travel easily. I just think these contestants are unserious, and the show just meaningless and not meant to create lasting couples anymore.
