He doesn't take it seriously and just pays lip service. His indifference when victims at a CP meeting when victims shared their stories was shocking and he got a lot of negative feedback, causing him to tweak his messaging slightly.

Frumin didn't pay much attention to the spiking crime problem initially. But then he kept hearing the spiking complaints from his Ward 3 constituents. Frumin realized if he didn't start to take crime seriously, he'd be in a real pickle ball.

Are you guys serious? I'm a felony prosecutor and no, he would not have this data off of the top of his head. The office may have it but he's not walking around with the exact number of robberies, rapes, homicides, etc. rolling around in his head all day. That's just a dumb question from an overly excitable Karen who probably doesn't even have to worry about these crimes in her neighborhood.

Do people realize that they do these events fairly often and that nothing has changed? You can find a lot of the recorded Zoom meetings online. By all means, people should attend, and do what you can to push accountability. But strategize in the context of what has come before.

He has done dozens upon dozens of these over years. He points the finger elsewhere. That is why the Congressional Committee that oversees DOJ needs to start doing THEIR job. They can also provide the resources, etc. that he claims he lacks. They have held 0 hearings. The Committee that Oversees DC can embarrass him but are not his literal bosses. Joint hearings would be even better, on a regular basis with metrics tied to public safety might begin to right the ship.

Doesn't the new traffic bill address this? The biggest problem with fake tags is that they aren't connected to anything or anyone. DC can mail all the tickets in the world but they will have nowhere to go. As such the ONLY thing they can do is to boot and/or impound vehicles on the spot.

I believe that the booting/impound crew is skeletal..one truck for the whole city? That means they aren't serious about it. You can ask Frumin at the meeting. Same things with the car theft/jacking task force being understaffed according to the detectives. If you care about an issue, you staff it.

And it's not even like they can claim they don't have the resources for more booting/impound crews as they would quickly pay for themselves with the sheer number of unpaid tickets out there. And they should also give people something like 120 days to make good on unpaid tickets and violations for any cars in impound, after which the city should put those cars on the auction block.

Likewise, staffing up on car theft / carjacking / shoplifting will save the city money in the long run due to stemming lost income because of lost tax base when stores close, when people don't want to drive into the city for work or retail or entertainment and so on.
