Everything we are hearing this year is that top schools want to see scores from most students, I.e. those who are not institutional priorities. There are certainly kids currently at Duke with a 1500 and I would submit.

Students in the bottom test quartile tend to bring something else to the table--eg, recruited athlete, URM, donor, legacy.

500-600 students are admitted with 1500 or less. And quite a few with no scores submitted at all.

Duke admitted 25% of its class who submitted scores last year with a 1500 or lower. How can you say 1500 would be a negative? Duke is screaming that a 1500 is a solid score to submit. Don't think too much into it.

My kid scored a 36 on the ACT first sitting and had a good UW GPA, My kid was declined from many schools. I really think college admissions are almost like a lottery these days. My kid had strong ECs, strong LOR and good essays.

I think there are many students from across the country that fit the same profile. I'm not angry. My kids ticket didn't win for the top 10 schools. BUT, my kid found a big state school and has been loving it.

Duke does not want its admitted stats lowered - so it perfectly happy playing the TO game…and the people that are affected the most are unhooked white/asian males with SAT/ACT, In the top 5%, just not in the top 99% - difference of just a few questions that would not have made such a difference pre-Covid.

Now, with the data from your linked article, maybe you will take note of the fact that the stats you claim Duke is trying to preserve were dramatically impacted by the pandemic and 20% increase in applications. The kids are the same. And the same kids that would have thrived in 2014 with a 1500 will thrive in 2024 with a 1500.

Yeah, a kid could thrive at Duke with a 1500. But a kid with a 1500 will most likely (almost certainly?) not make it into Duke.

Sure. Because Duke recalibrated its curriculum and standards during the pandemic. They made it easier to get in but harder to graduate.

Why not, getting into Duke regardless of score is really impressive so even if it’s below 25th percentile it’s not a score that’ll put you dead in the water
