Biden’s moderate approach to Israel didn’t siphon off voters despite what all the far left was screaming about. Banning trans healthcare for kids didn’t win, and I say this as someone who thinks medicalized transition for children is a serious medical scandal but who also feels very strongly that it’s extremely inappropriate for legislators to interfere with medical care (including abortion). Abortion rights were a huge winner and I was afraid that issue had faded out of view. J6 wasn’t diminished in importance. Election deniers lost badly. Youngkin was rebuffed squarely in his attempt to become more MAGA and will hopefully return to being a RINO Republican and then eventually lose entirely (I think he is smarmy).
Essentially these results are an endorsement of some badly needed moderates. It’s a relief.
Your posting twin said the same thing a few pages back and I’ll say the same thing in reply to you: the extremist GOP worldview is being repudiated. You don’t need to both sides this, people just don’t want what the GOP is pushing.
One might think the media would get a clue after today but I’m not holding my breath.
On 538.
Democrats had a great night!
Here’s why it’s bad for the Democrats.

He is done. Every state where abortion has been on the ballot has voted to uphold abortion rights. He is on record as wanting to take away bodily autonomy. Move on.
Besides, I’m not seeing a situation where Trump voters choose him over Trump in the primary.
His only hope is Trump wins and makes him like secretary of the treasury or some shit like that.
If, god forbid, trump wins next year, he is going to surround himself only with mega maga absolute loyalists and he is not loyalist enough
My Wash Post page is acting up for me this a.m. but there is a post about this. It claims a) Trumps odds of winning are increasing and b) the plans being OPENLY discussed by him/his advisors and which are plainly fascist.
This includes purging govt workers and installing those who are loyal to him, invoking the Insurrection Act to quell protests, and more. As well as pardoning and apologizing to those convicted of J6 insurrection.
He is TELLING US he will try to dismantle our democracy. Y'all need to listen to him.

Reminds me of the story of the little girl going to visit her grandmother on a very cold and snowy morning. She comes across a snake who begs her to put him under her coat so he won't freeze to death. She tells him. "No. You're a snake and you'll bite me.". The snake then promises her that he won't bite. Being a compassionate little girl she puts the snake under her coat and ten minutes later she feels his fangs biting her.
"But you promised that you wouldn't bite me " she said. "You knew what I was when you picked me up, " the snake replied.
We all know what Trump and the MAGAs are!

Honestly, you and others should read it (gift link):

It's not so much cheerleading for Youngkin as describing the space he could succeed in.
So much for that guy! His national aspirations are toast after sticking his name all over this campaign - in an off/off election year for VA - and then losing the legislature.
I do think that if Youngkin RINOs up and distances himself from MAGA, he could come back. But he clearly doesn’t have great political instincts. Going full MAGA was never going to work in VA.
But here's the thing, he is MAGA. Not sure why you think he isn't -- he's a one hit wonder who got lucky with his stupid fleece vest
THIS. Tons of MAGA are white, well off middle aged men. I recall a maps showing where insurrectionist came from. Lost from blue states/ areas. They aren’t all hicks. They are doctors, finance, dentists. Lots of dentists.
Youngkin won last time on a combination of a bad opponent and suburban frustration about delayed school reopening after COVID. His endorsed candidates have been losing ever since. Lots of people I know in Northern Virginia (where I live) were not excited about McAuliffe and also felt like Nova and Virginia were sufficiently blue to keep everything that way. Youngkin's election woke them up to the fact that their vote still matters. Youngkin was able fluke, not movement.
